PC can't connect to any wireless networks (but can detect them)

New build arrived yesterday, setting it up today. I installed the antenna onto the PC as instructed and it seems to partially work since it will detect all the networks around me.

However, when trying to join any network at all it waits for about 10 seconds and then tells me that it "can't connect to this network". I have tried several networks, passwords are correct, but nothing works. I have tried disconnecting other devices and forgetting the network, and they can reconnect just fine, so I am assuming that there is some kind of issue with the antenna or wifi part of the motherboard, but I don't know what it could be.

Any ideas?

Ok can you connect it via Ethernet to install those updates it mentions, I reckon be a chipset or other driver amongst them related to Wi-Fi

I don't have an ethernet connection available to me currently as the accommodation is shared and the router is on the bottom floor, whereas I am on the top floor...

Is it possible to ship updates over on a USB stick or something like that?

Actually, could I connect my currently working laptop to the new PC via ethernet and share internet that way, do you think?

Just tether off your mobile, install any windows updates, then reboot and try wifi again on the PC. Are you getting enough signal on the PC for the wifi connection?

It wouldn't connect to my mobile, same issue as a normal network.

Connected it with an ethernet cable and jimmied it into working so the main PC now has an internet connection.

Now to install a bunch of stuff and then find out why my GPU isn't being detected...

Ah I should add that the signal strength for WIFI seems to be fine, it's full bars and everything. It just won't connect. After the updates have finished I'll restart everything and try it again.

Your spec says Gigabyte motherboard but photo shows an ASUS TUF motherboard.

And looks like you have monitor connected to the onboard graphics and not the GPU. Do you have a GPU installed?

I’d also check for any BIOS update, prob issues with these early AM5 boards. Just check with PCS if ok to upgrade BIOS first.

Oh, I guess the updated spec didn't go through into the original order. The motherboard is the ASUS TUF with WiFi.

I connected the monitor to the motherboard because it wasn't detecting through the GPU which I installed myself. I am wanting to believe that it's because there are no drivers on the PC as opposed to be installing it wrong. It's in the PCIE slot and has power through 2 out of 3 of the 8 pin connectors and is lighting up so I think it should work fine.

You need all power connectors connected on the GPU.
Oh, there are other versions of this GPU that don't have 3 connectors (only 2) and they work fine. Getting the cables to bend into all three slots might be difficult but I'll give it a go. Thanks.

Different models have different power requirements, that's the same of any model of GPU / CPU, anything at all.
PCS have only given me two sets of cables but each one seems to be comprised of an 8-pin and an additional 6+2 pin. Am I safe to plug any three of these into the GPU as it is?

Thanks again Spyder.

The cables are quite stretched trying to reach over the body of the GPU, so only the two 6+2 pins can fit in easily while the 8 pins are potentially getting bent quite a bit. Would it be better to get a PCIe extension cable instead of risking bending the cables too much do you think?

Just adjust the cable management to give a bit more extension.

Ok, so the problem is now fixed. After installing the updates for windows, I restarted the PC and still no jazz. It could find the networks perfectly fine, but absolutely refused to connect to them.

I eventually stumbled across the most up-to-date drivers on this webpage here: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?124328-DRIVERS-AMD-MediaTek-WiFi-Bluetooth

And after installing these new drivers the WiFi works perfectly fine.

I don't know if this page will get cached for people searching in the future, but anyone has a RZ608 WiFi 6E 80 MHz adapter and it isn't connecting to a network, get the most recent drivers in the link above, this is version dated 28/09/2022. Alternatively, I've also seen people use CCleaner to automatically find them.

Now on to the GPU issue.
