IMHO, I would cancel it and order an AMD platform.

The i7 is a completely redundant processor, it doesn't have hyperthreading which almost everything (including gaming) is now using. With Intel, the ONLY CPU worth buying for almost any purpose is the i9 9900k or 9900ks, anything lower is pointless as has no hyperthreading and anything above is vastly outperformed by AMD.

Intel is just a really poor choice for the foreseeable future.

For the same or less money, you can get a lot more power and better futureproofing with an AMD alternative.

Reduce the 3800x to the 3700x as the 3800x isn’t an improvement.

You can also reduce the cooler to an H100i which is more than enough.

Other than that it’s sweet!

the Intel 9700K is better for gaming just now than all or any of the other AMDs at the moment so if I,m future proofing it
would the 3900X not be better than the 3700X for over the next 2 years ..?
That’s inaccurate, unless you’re looking at 1080p gaming? Where are you getting that info?

Best gaming processors at a glance:

1. Intel Core i7-9700K (9th Gen)
2. AMD Ryzen 9 3950X
3. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
4. AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
5. AMD Ryzen 5 2400G
6. AMD Ryzen 3 2200G
Yes, that's a very simplistic view and only looking at 1080p.
If you read the info even on the 9700k though it states:
"That said, at about $100 (£80) less with an in-box cooler (which Intel’s unlocked CPUs lack) AMD’s Ryzen 7 3700X is arguably a better value for gamers on a tight budget—especially if you’re gaming at or close to 4K resolutions, where frame rates tend to even out between Intel and AMD. "

What screen are you pairing it with? I take it it's not 1080p as it's a 2080ti? At higher resolutions, the workload is shifted away from the processor onto the GPU, and you'll find that the 3700x is on par with the 9700k whilst being a lot cheaper AND has hyperthreading. It's not even a competition, the 3700x is the clear winner.

Unless there's a very specific niche of gaming the 3700X is more than enough (For gaming the 3600 is fine but the 3700X would give scope for streaming & multi-tasking).

Im using the AW3420DW monitor, just gets confusing when you look up the sites and
it tells you that the I7 9700K is the best gaming cpu even on https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/best-cpu-for-gaming/

Yeah, they're pretty much all aimed at 1080p systems, reason being is that competitive gamers who are looking for ultimate performance are all gaming at 1080p 244Hz, all they care about is FPS, they have all the settings dialled down to reach the maximum FPS they can.

Most "normal" gamers are playing at at least 1440p 144Hz and you're even higher on 1440p ultrawide, so the CPU benefit is severely limited with regards to FPS. Whilst the 9700k may still have an edge, we're literally talking 1-4 fps, and the increased cost, plus no hyperthreading, plus no PCIe 4 makes it a really poor choice.

Just as a further addition, games optimisation has heavily favoured Intel over the years as they've been the ONLY competitive option, but I guarantee that developers will be heavily favoring AMD optimisation as of the release of the Ryzen 3000 series.

AMD are already the favorite choice now for gamers by quite a large margin, but as soon as they release their next line of processors which are on an even newer architecture, they'll take the crown from Intel fully in the gaming space.

Developers are going to flock to the most popular brand, that PLUS the fact that AMD work incredibly closely with developers on optimisation (look at their work with Linux and Windows), and the fact that Intel have fully admitted they have nothing in the pipline for another 2 years until they're able to move onto 7nm (they've fully admitted already that their upcoming 10nm chips are going to perform worse than their current offerings).

For futureproofing, it's insane to select Intel, they're stuck on a 5 year old architecture that thermally sucks. It may get high framerates currently, but things are moving towards multithreaded and AMD already hold the higher IPC count which is arguably more important than high frequency.
