Yes having read abut it some more myself I do believe you are correct, if it wasn't in a laptop it would probably be fine, but as it is then it can heat up other nearby components which is no good.

I've ordered the Samsung 850 EVO normal SSD to replace it, so I'll update on how the temps are with that instead :)

PCS should add a warning to the mSATA sections about how they can run hotter than normal SSD's. I wrongly assumed they were just like standard SSD's but without the extra casing/form factor. Having never had any temp issues on my current SSD's it just didn't occur to me tbh.

yes, I agree with you.
the temperature always confuse people, even if this temperature is ok for system
some motherboard put s.2 and CPU very close,so you can image what will happen. They report the m.2 ssd can reach 85C,ridiculous!

I replaced my s.2 to a normal SSD,too
the difference is my laptop is still in 9th pre-production day.I hope it will be a nice one.

oh it's not 85 ,it is 65
85 is impossible, chip always can control temperature not too high.
but 65 is nearly the limit

Update, interesting temp stats.

All I did here was plug in the new SSD, and use Samsung software to clone my data, both drives obviously being heavily utilised, you can see the temp differences between the Crucial M2 and the Samsung 850 EVO standard SSD drive, about 20C difference under load.

After swap out and restarting laptop currently idling CPU 47C, GPU 34C, 850 Evo 30C. Much better for the SSD temps at least :)

Thanks for bringing all this to our attention... I was going to get a 951, but I've been warned.

Here's a test for copying a large file where the temps went over 100 degrees!!

If I save even one person from high temp issues caused by the M2 drives I am happy, I would like to see PCS put in a warning that the M2 drives can run hotter by default, because for me it was no obvious until I experienced it, and read about it some more.

M2 will be better if they can sort out the temp issues, or if you have it in a well ventilated desktop, for a laptop not so much! :)
