Optimus 17.3" does not work as expected

Hello, I wonder if anyone can answer a question I have. I recently received a laptop with the specs that I post below, and it seems to struggle with the games I play rather a lot. I find this odd considering the specs aren't exactly bottom end, nor are they top end but should be able to play the games I play easy enough. Also considering it struggles more than a 5 year old MSI with inferior components.
I have so far tried it on Total War: Warhammer 2 , Three Kingdoms, and Shogun 2 and regardless of the graphics settings the fps tends to hover around 10 most times. I know these games can be intensive but even an old laptop of mine performed better than this. Can anyone think of why?
The games themselves, as well as Geforce experience all automatically put the settings at their highest because in theory the laptop should handle it.

Thanks.

I should add it also has Bullguard anti-virus installed. If that makes any difference. Any help would be appreciated.

What does it do if you deactivate bullguard?
10FPS certainly doesnt seem right in either case... Have you checked the drivers are up to date and had a look at the nividia control panel to see how it setup?

Check the Windows Power Settings, it's probably using a 'balanced' mode to prolong battery life. Set that to 'high performance' or go through each of the settings in there and turn on the high performance options for each.

It came with windows.
I tried disabling bullguard but without uninstalling it.
I have changed the power settings to maximum performance.
Everything is up to date, and I have no idea what I am looking at in the nvidia control panel.

Issue persists. 10FPS.

Definitely using the proper GPU? Right click the game executable and force it to run with the nVidia GPU just to be sure.

Does it have control centre (or gaming centre) installed? There are probably performance settings in there.

I have fiddled with the performance settings in the Gaming Centre, and have tried it on all 3 settings. Very little change between them.

I did contact tech support on here which has led me down a rabbit of problems and now I find myelf struggling to re-install the GeForce drivers. GeForce experience has stopped working for me and I am about ready to tear my hair out.

I have followed all of their advice as best I could but with no results.

Does anyone have any other ideas please? Or have I set my sights too high. I am pretty sure it should be able to perform better than it is.

This is on the game recommended settings with everything on full power. The peaks are very odd, and do not reflect what was happening on the screen, meaning that the framerate did not depend on what was happening but would randomly run smoothly then drop back down to 5 or so.

I tried it on the lowest settings and got a result of ~26 which is still quite appalling.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the laptop, it's just windows isn't configured yet.

You need to make sure you're installing the correct driver package, one will download nvidia control center from windows store, the other should have it included:

You'll need to fully uninstall bullguard, it's known to cause network issues.

Furthermore, you need to make sure any Ray Tracing is turned off as well as SuperSampling as they'll both cripple performance.

None of my games have ray tracing, unless it is in the Nvidia control panel somewhere.

In any case, I tried a game from 2001 which you would expect to run without any issues at all, but even that suffered a framerate drop.

So I'm completely out of ideas.

All drivers have been reinstalled, up to date; I have all available windows updates installed. I'm completely stuck.

Do you have DCH or standard graphics drivers?

If you fully uninstall Bullguard as we've just had a user where it was negatively affecting temps of all things, it's also known to cause issues with networking.

Then could you install HWMonitor and monitor your idle temps and when under load?
