Opinions on graphics card, since I got the wrong one lol

Don't ask me how I managed it or how I only noticed it now but I noticed today that I went and got myself the wrong graphics card when ordering my new PC 😅

I'm going to blame it on excitement of ordering a new rig and the fact it was around my 10th time to go and build one, I know you'd think I'd get it right by that time!

I meant to order a Nvidia but ordered an Asus, how badly did I screw up? Is the Asus a good graphics card?

Hi mate, have you ordered this system and what is it for?

Kind of strange storage set up, a sound card we wouldn't really recommend and extra thermal paste when your CPU cooler comes with pre-applied paste

Bullguard aswell generally causes more problems than it solves and a monitor that isn't all that great and definitely not a good match for a 3080

We can really help you optimise here

Don't worry about the GFX card -- the Asus is a brand of graphics card that uses the base Nvidia chip. Asus generally have a good rep.

The storage drives are really slow by todays standards and they are basically server drives so very loud

Also the 64GB will just not get used for gaming, very very few even need 32GB like heavily modded games or Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 it's recommended. Pretty much everything else 16GB is more than enough

If you wanted a 3080 I'd recommend the samsung G9 as the monitor.

Upside is that you can make changes to your order no problem while it's still in the production phase

Yeah you should definitely invest in at least a M.2 SSD for your OS. Those HDD's you've selected are going to be a serious bottleneck

You've basically bought a Ferrari and taken the wheels off and replaced them with wooden circles while having a donkey drag the husk around

As for the anti-virus. Windows Defender is free with windows and just as good as the others out there

Changing drives is one of the simplest DIY things you can do, have a watch at couple Youtube vids. It's literally just plug in and plug out, super simple all hope isn't lost

As for the M.2 SSD, even easier. You just slot them in screw them down and boom your good to go

Hey we all learn, trial and error generally has more error than trial but like I said it's all learning

There's nothing that can't be fixed thankfully, the actual base of your build is fantastic. Everything is done correct

I think you've just over shot on the RAM and your storage drives weren't the best choices but these aren't build defining issues and are easily sorted

This is very true and more so for a PC then laptop or at least they are a little easier to fix. Well that's something at least, so I got around 65% of it correct, I'll take it lol

With regard to the graphics card, the Asus Rog Strix 3080 is an "enthusiast card" that retails at a higher price normally than the more vanilla Zotac or Palit cards. In that sense you've paid more than you probably had to.

Note though that you could easily sell that second hand for over a £1,000 in the current market (the bid offer is £928/£1600) and buy a Zotac or Palit cheaper than that as an "upgrade" from PCS to recoup some money. I'm not saying I recommend that since it's more trouble that it's worth but just so you don't feel that you've "wasted" money.

Fitting an M2 NVMe PCIe4 SSD is relatively easy these days (probably easier than a hard drive) and you could buy a very good one, such as 1TB Samsung 980 Pro for £140 or a cheaper PCIe3 one such as 1Tb WD Blue for £69.
