NVidia RTX 5000 series

5080 is the big one I'm waiting for.
And not just for performance, but for size (for the FE model anyway), 304mm length and 2 slot is extremely appealing vs 3000 and 4000 series cards, it would actually fit in my build and is more attractive than the very sought after (and expensive) Asus ProArt 4080 Super which was 300mm long but 2.5 slot high

So coming from a complete idiot standpoint is it looking like 5090 > 4090 > 5080?

Coming from a 2080TI I was going to go for the 5080 but I've been getting mixed reviews, I don't really know what to buy now :ROFLMAO:

I think the 5080 vs the AMD offering is going to be more relevant as the pricing is the key.

It's going to be difficult to pick up a 4090 new for 5080 money so I think the 5080 is going to be the best £1000 offering. It's not great value though as I would have expected it to perform better than the previous tier up (same with all the cards).

Early reviews for the 5080 stating ITRO 8% uplift from 4080 Super, not much to write home about. Clearly this is the reason for the price drop though, so at least that side is a bonus.

I can't see many people dropping their 4080 for a 5080 though. I'm only really considering a 4090 now if an opportunity presents, I'm not rushing out my way though.

Not looking great, but we should see reviews at 14:00 UTC.

Not reaching 4090 tier raster performance is disappointing, I am sure we will get a £1200 4080 ti/super in a year that will aim for this spot.

If there is a decent amount of stock of cards attainable for under £1k it's still a better option than getting a new 4080 Super IMO, but if you already have a decent card (4070ti+, 7900 GRE+) , there doesn't seem to be enough gain to justify the upgrade here.

It's very similar to me buying the 2080 when it released. I was between the 1080Ti and the 2080, they pretty much traded blows and the cash was similar. What ended up swaying me was the additional tech with the 20 series. Other than that, it was an awful value for money proposition. Anyone already on decent hardware weren't really getting anything for the upgrade potential. 20 series was the worst value in years, looks like we may have a new champ :D

Some 5080 retail boxes were shown on public listings stating 24gb VRAM, and I wonder if that was initially what the 5080 was intended for but nvidia pulled it for a subsequent super / ti variant later on

Because, you know, milking it!!!

But it never made sense to me that the 5090 would sensibly increase the VRAM so much while the rest of the stack remained under provisioned.

Disappointing.

With that being said, if you can get a 5080 for under £1k it will be worth it over a new 4080 Super based on current prices. If you don't care about RT, the 7900 XTX can currently be found for a cheaper price, and might be what I personally opt for if I can't snag an FE tomorrow.

If you're confident with the second hand market, trying to source a second hand 4080(super) or 4090 might be a good shout here as well.

The 4080 Super production finished in October last year, so it's just a case of clearing existing stocks.

As such, I don't see the price reducing that much on that card, that would only affect new orders being made by retailers, I would have thought stocks would be drying up.

Certainly some models are already showing end of life the Asus ProArt

In fact eBuyer is showing 0 stocks at all for 4080 Supers! https://www.ebuyer.com/store/Components/cat/Graphics-Cards-Nvidia/subcat/GeForce-RTX-4080-SUPER

It looks the same for the 4070ti Super, although a few parts still available, but very few.

4070 Super and below still looks well stocked

So retailers open orders today at 2pm in the UK for the 5090 and 5080

From what I'm seeing, Scan are not stocking the Founders Edition this time round, they'll actually only be available direct from Nvidia UK, this is on the scan website

With regards to Founders Editions specifically, 5090s are likely to sell out in a matter of minutes I'm guessing, 5080s won't last long either. If you're looking for one sharpish you're going to have to be fast. From reports, they're expecting stocks to basically be non-existent for the first 3 months.

I am sincerely hoping Nvidia have put in proper protections against scalper bots otherwise it will be just like the pandemic seeing them all sold out instantly with the site crashing, and suddenly listings appearing on eBay for £2000 for 5080's and £4000 for 5090s.

If you're ordering a card through PCS, they're likely to be low stocks too, but on the plus side PCS won't be affected by scalpers, so would suggest creating and saving a quote, or even putting through an order now with a placeholder card of equivalent value, and then amending it for the 5000 series card come 2pm. That will give you the best chance of snagging one.

The fact there has been no pre-order window is a first as far as I'm aware, and I fear does point to just how low initial stock levels are going to be.

Wishing everyone the very best of luck 🤞 Whatever happens don’t succumb to scalpers! Keep the faith

Looking at the benchmarks is there any real reason to go with the 5080 over the 7900XTX?

I'm super out of the loop on literally everything you can imagine at the minute

If you can get it at retail (£999) then I would say yes, the 5080 has more raster chops than the 7900XTX (keep in mind that's one chart, I've seen others where the 7900XTX is closer to the 4070 Ti Super) and with the bells and whistles turned on it's a no contest. £100-sih price difference so I would have the 5080 over the XTX personally.

There is also unfortunately the addition of stability, unfortunately it’s still the case that AMDs drivers tend to take a lot more troubleshooting (although they are streets better than the 5000 series days)

But if you’re going AMD, read up on how to install just the driver without Adrenaline as adrenaline is a regular source of BSODs and driver crashes

So I’ve owned a PC with a GeForce 1080 for about 9 years now, and it’s now the time for me to get a new PC as everything has gotten slower and Windows 10 support dies in October. My specs are too outdated to upgrade to Windows 11, and I’ll be making the move to Linux personally due to getting constantly tired of Microsoft’s choices as of late. The Steam Deck has given me a Linux lite experience to where I’m happy to make the move.

I’m probably going to be looking into a new PC with a 5090 around May as that’s when I’ll hopefully have the funds to afford one. Really hoping that 5090s will be slightly easier to obtain by then as I’m expecting them to be a nightmare to obtain early on. Thinking of saving a quote on the rig I have in mind once 5090s show up as being available here. Hopefully PC Specialist will have some as my last two PCs have come from them.

Best of luck to those who also plan on getting one 👍

I'm very familiar with AMD drivers having had a system with 6950s in Crossfire for no reason whatsoever other than I liked headaches, super fun to flash them and overclock so they were basically 6970s felt like I was cheating the system. Then having a system with an R9 580X in it I'm well versed in AMD

I never had much of a problem with their drivers though to be honest other than the very odd game that would just not play nice with AMD cards but those days are long in the past
