I won’t be one of those up at midnight, I know what my monitor is capable of and I think I’ll be waiting for the 3070, or maybe the 3060Ti once we know a bit more about it.

Thought I'd put my feelings towards the whole 3080 debate going round in the forums the last few days as it seems the notion is the 3080 is a 4k 144hz graphics card.

I'm really interested in seeing how Red Dead 2 runs on it. It can't run 4k 60 (max settings) on a 2080ti so there isn't a chance it's going to run 4k 144 on a 3080.

Also, based on that digital foundry early video, Control was running 1444p upscaled to 4k with ray tracing and hitting 60.

Personally, I think saying the 3080 being able to run 4k 144hz at max settings might be a bit ambitious. (Obviously depending on the game)

It's not crazy...it's just the world we live in where people just buy the best because "they can" even if it means the card is under-utilised for it's entire lifespan. these same people will probably buy a new system when the next new GPU series comes along as well.

Same as people who buy a bugatti Veyron and then never take it anywhere where it can go above like 70mph
I was referring to those who are unaware of the full potential from these cards and those only using 1080p monitors.

What do people think? GamersNexus and Hardware Unboxed were the only 2 that gave real world benchmarks for me, the others just cranked settings up to max all over which isn’t how any gamer would set it, and certainly not how 2000 series were benchmarked. I was rather upset with Linus‘s video, it was really rather dire.

I was expecting more will full RT, got sucked into the hype with that one.

and anyone seeing averages of games like control and red dead, those are wildcard games, they just require enormous amounts of power with full settings.

But DLSS 2 does look very worthwhile, and thermals also are very very impressive.

it's looking from what benchmarks have said and what reviwers have said, if you are planning on getting a 3080 maybe an idea you upgrade from 1080p to get a 1440 monitor at least, as most of the game that where benchemarked while at 1440p didnt always reach past 144FPS it seems that a sweet spot for max settings in game is a 1440p 144Hz, good to know.
