Just saw a post on Reddit saying the NDA's for Founders Edition are lifted on 14 Sep. Third party is 17. It appears they've sent cards for review and they are sitting on their content until 14.

Interesting video on proposed cooler considerations for the 3080 and 3090:

It’s quite in depth but an interesting take.

No real surprises with that to be honest. I don't know how much impact the direction of the air will have though, I doubt it will make much more odds than it does at the moment.

I guess it just makes the rear extraction all the more important for anyone considering air.

Nice graphs though effectively showing the heat soak time of an air cooler. I didn't realise it would be so quick with air, but obviously that's extreme testing.

Another interesting read, the technology editor of digital foundry got an early Retail sample of the 3080 and was given a list of games to benchmark from nvidia. Obviously these will be cherry picked offering top performance so this is certainly not to be taken as what the card will average out at, but it’s a very good read.

Digital Foundry are a well respected source in the community.

Even with the cherry picking taken into account, it's mind boggling.

Tomb Raider was always an absolute nightmare for FPS. It's a modern engine with modern requirements. Getting that sort of headway on that title suggests a very good potential for other such games.

This is definitely the year for GPU upgrades. Makes my 2080 purchase look idiotic haha.

Note..... I had no GPU prior to the 2080... that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

I’m getting way ahead of things here but it seems to be tradition that somewhere between six to nine months after a new Nvidia GPU release we get the Super version released. I can’t even imagine what those ones will bring to the table after this unveiling, these new cards are just unreal!

Leaks have already hit about the RTX2070 Super AND a RTX2070ti also. The ti they’re saying may have 16Gb VRAM.

BUT Lenovo who listed these cards have been known to list wholly wrong placeholders in the past, including for cards that never existed at all, namely 800 desktop cards.

Debating whether to place an order with all the rest of the PC parts and append the 3080 when it releases. The fact they're allowing reviews 3 days before launch is making me optimistic they're very confident with their product.

I'd say it's definitely worth it, spec it without a card initially and then add it when available.

From reading the pre-production days thread they've been building pc's a lot faster than the 12-15 working days. Worried that the order would be ready before the new cards have actually been released.

Edit* Perhaps I'll wait until this Thursday.

There are as few posts on Reddit about pre-orders and NVIDA appear to have stopped anyone from offering it as an option. I wonder if suppliers will have stock before the launch dates but have to keep them under wraps.

Suppliers usually get stocks long before release date, but they're under NDA's, same with reviewers. Usually there are pre orders, but given the worldwide commerce at the moment, they've decided not to with this release.

NVidia know the issues with short supplies anyway, factor that in with general logistical issues worldwide due to covid and they're doing the right thing imho. The other worry is that crypto miners (the tiny fraction that are still finding it worthwhile) are going to be all over these cards also which they want to avoid as that would drive prices up further.

Impatience got the better of me and I've ordered. In before all the cards sell out.... 🙃

Order scheduled to be built on the 15th. That's much faster than I was expecting. Not sure if that means if people are holding off until the 17th or their service is lightening fast. Probably a bit of both
