Not So Fast AMD! 13th Gen Soon

You need to factor liquid cooling, PSU, motherboard, case and leccy bill into the cost if you want to get the full performance out of this thing. For gaming it's just not worth it. Pointless CPU IMHO.

I think with the difference in power draw I'd go 7700x and drop a couple of fps (which i probably wouldn't see the difference)

I've gone 7700X. Never having had a rig where dropping a few fps was possible, I'll have to see what's what first :D

But I'm actually waiting for the 7700X3D 😂

Did anyone see the LTT video on this? Positively shill which is unlike them. Also unfortunately it appears Hot News is taking the same approach.

They're very one sided reviews and I'd personally steer clear.

Have only watched the Linus and the Hardware Unboxed videos so far. The HUB is very balanced, and goes into depth on the power and thermals areas which are where you need to pay special note.

Also, please bear in mind, operating temps and thermal throttle are totally independent. AMD operating at 95 does not cause thermal throttling so performance is not impacted. Intel 13th Gen on a premium 420mm Rad caused TJ Max (thermal throttling) in under 20 seconds of load and requires 70% more power to for that privilege :ROFLMAO: It's actually insane. If you ran 300W through the 7900x and unlocked it, you would get far more performance at less power than the 13900k, I'm sure that test will come out at some point.

That's a MAJOR difference.

LTT have been shills in my opinion for years mate. I've said it for a long time...... especially when it comes to their cooling recommendations.

I like their videos from an entertainment and highlight standpoint, but I take their recommendations and Jayz with a complete pinch of salt.

GN aren't perfect, but they give me everything I need for an informed decision.

Apologies..... I've not watched all the vids.

Can anyone confirm if anyone tested any of the chips in a case, in a home-use scenario?

The 13600K looks to be a decent all-round CPU. I would still have a preference for the 7600x over it if it wasn't for the overall cost of the AM5 platform.

That's the vid I literally just finished. I can't see past the 13600k for value to be honest.

I absolutely love the AM5 offerings but the value is in the toilet right now, IMO. The total platform cost & options drives it far higher than necessary.

I'm confident that AMD will pull it out the bag with the 3D cache, performance wise, but value wise they're going to need to get the CPU value up. I don't think it's necessarily the CPUs that's causing the biggest upset though, it's the motherboard pricing.... which is completely eye watering.

For me, 13600k or 5800X3D are the best gaming options right now. AM5 doesn't even factor.

For high end workloads the 13900k and the 7950X trade blows really. I can't argue with any end user choosing either platform. Both options will need a freezer attached to them to get the best out of them anyway so the only real consideration is going to be efficiency...... which I personally wouldn't really consider to harshly.

Intel have actually done really well here. I think we will all agree that they're right on the ragged edge of what they can produce..... where I think AMD have a bit more space. Launch vs launch though, crown goes to Intel for me. They've had the more palatable launch.
