The reinstall went fine. I followed the instructions from @Martinr36 in this thread:

and it went without issue. Until I tried to play some audio.

As you can see from the specs above, I went with a sound card.

I have updated the drivers found here: https://www.asus.com/uk/motherboard...onar-ae/helpdesk_download?model2Name=Xonar-AE on the Asus website.

Worth noting that audio doesn't play from a variety of sources. Twitch, YouTube, Kodi, VLC etc.

One thing I don't understand is that when I open both the Xonar software and also the system sound page in Windows, the volume bars in both are moving as if audio is playing. I have attached pictures.

My speakers are plugged into the sound card on the back of my PC in the 'Front' jack, but I have tried all six output jacks don't give any sound.

I have run Windows trouble shoot and that can't work out the issue.

Can anyone help?

Turned my PC on this morning and I have audio so this can be regarded as a giant waste of time and won't be helpful to anyone in the future!

It's likely that you needed to install the drivers. Windows update wouldve done this automatically for you.
I thought that too. After the install I ran Windows Update until no updates were found and also installed all optional updates too. I repeated running Windows Update a few times, but nothing was ever found. I also restarted my PC more than once yesterday evening, more in the hope that it would trigger something into working than anything else.

Clearly something, somewhere has changed but I've no idea what it is.

Either way, my PC is running silky smooth compared to before the update. Everything so much quicker than it was. Almost feels like new again!

Really sorry I missed this yesterday, but really glad you got it sorted.

Optional updates should address the actual audio drivers, with audio drivers though it almost always needs a reboot once they’re installed.

I can only think the audio drivers hadn’t initially installed when you first ran optional updates, and then eventually applied and still required a reboot.

But it’s working, that’s the main thing
