How long is a piece of string? Lol. It should last you a good while. As games get more demanding, quality will drop but a good few years yes.

Probably last question: Wait for pascal or simply go for 980ti?
I believe that the ti version of Pascal would be out around Christmas this year.

I'd have probably said an R9 390x. Trades blows with the GTX 980 (non-ti) across games at 1440p, but is quite a lot cheaper, so should tide you over quite happily for a few months.

Thanks for the reply, I was looking at some benchmarks of the R9 390x but saw that it performed quite bit worse than the 980ti. However, would it be wise since I'd like to go with an Nvidia card anyway for G-sync (and so I don't have to base my whole build to accommodate the AMD card with a new AMD build) to simply get a 980ti and wait for the Volta cards in 2018? I thought that'd be a good thing to do.
