New PC specs, any changes?

Hi all,
I'm looking into getting a new computer but am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to hardware, have made this build and adjusted it over time but am stuck on if there's anything else people would recommend changing about it!
Current monitor is 1440 144hz (problem solved)
The majority of it's usage would be for gaming (FPS/MMO's), but might also stream occasionally so checking if it's comfortable with that would be great
Budget goes up to £3k, this sits at £2.5 so well within budget right now!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers

It's an Lg Ultragear 27GL83A-B
Website says 144hz but I can only cap to 100, that might just be an issue with it though

It's likely just a driver issue or possibly a port limitation if you're on very old hardware.

Anyhoo, 1440p 144hz it is, it's a lovely monitor by the way, I'm a huge fan of the LG's, they tend to offer bleeding edge performance at half the price because they're one of the very few that actually makes their own panels.

Could you add the configuration link at the bottom of the quote above so we can edit it?

The reason for the very large PSU is cos of a thing called Transient Spikes which is present on 3000 series and 4000 series nvidia GPU's (and to a lesser extent, AMD)

Just a quick link to what DirectStorage is all about, it's brand new tech but games will definitely use it going forwards, it's been on playstation for a long time now, there's a video below to show it's significance

The other thing worth mentioning is that AMD are about to release their new RX 7000 series GPU's on the 13th December, so 3rd party reviews will go live at least 24 hours before.

It's worth waiting to see what they can achieve, if rumours are to be believed it's going to be something quite special.

Thanks for the bits of info on why certain parts are better than others! That helps a lot.
Will also be sure to give those videos a watch here soon, seems like some interesting stuff!
Pretty sure I can hold back to see what those are all about, though would it be worth waiting, unsure if it would make any different with the current monitor setup?
Thanks for the replies so soon as well, super helpful! :D

That's a good point really.

The monitor you have is good, but it's quite mediocre for the budget you've got for the build.

Really with the budget available, you could be pairing with an ultrawide or 4k 144hz monitor which would be a step up again.

That's where the upcoming AMD GPU's may afford a much more luxurious PC + very high end monitor.

There are some amazing ultrawides out there at the moment, they've really hit the mainstream since last gen GPU's hit the market.

I own a Superwide which is essentially 2 x 1440p screens without any separation ie just one screen. Ultrawide is 1.5 x 1440p, and the value of it is that you get a much wider real estate, so you see extra detail to the right and left. It's extremely immersive, and I could never go back to normal aspect ratio screens.

The other thing to mention is HDR, most modern monitors support it, and as an owner of an HDR monitor, it's another factor that really pops and adds a much deeper layer to game graphics

Hm some interesting stuff mentioned and to think about for sure. Not quite sure when I'd be upgrading main monitor as I only go this one this year, and it's quite an expensive upgrade from here! I'll probably stick with where I'm at on it and make sure I have space to upgrade the pc when I decide to upgrade monitor and do them at the same time (Hopefully it isn't too difficult to install a GPU aha, will find out when that time comes)

The GPU power design video is interesting, not something I'd have thought about happening, but knowing that it's something to look out for is really good, so thanks for that! And thanks for all this help, been very useful!

Godlike
Build above looks good, but I would probably recommend the 3070 over the 3070ti. The 3070ti is £135 more expensive at the moment and doesn’t offer much additional performance; my general rule of thumb is that it isn’t worth going for unless the price difference is ~£50.
Just my two cents, either one will be a good fit.

I've just got a Gigahertz M34WQ, 3440x1440p, 144Hz, 34" ultrawide flat screen. A step up from a standard 22" 1080p, 60Hz
Not quite 2 full screen widths, at 21:9 ratio, but I can get most of two screens on it. Extremely useful for comparing two similar files or, for eg, copying / pasting parts from one file into another. You can see exactly what's going on, with both files, at the same time. On standard 16:9, you can have the same 2 files open, but they're either too small to read properly, or one overlays the other, so you can't see what's just happened on the other file without clicking back and forth.

Gaming wise, your peripheral vision is much greater. Mine is a flat screen, so no 'wrap around', unlike the Samsung G9, but that's also a wider screen. I think with anything much more than 34" with a flatscreen, you're getting too wide for peripheral vision, you need the wrap around. Eye focus distance n stuff. Mind you, my eyes are old (and the rest of me, nearly 64). Perhaps younger eyes can change focus quicker and better than mine 😊

It is indeed.
I love it, now
Initially it took a bit of getting used to.

I'd have pages at full width, and then be constantly moving my head and focus to read.
That didn't last long :D Now I generally have a page at 'standard' width, with big black borders.
2 pages side by side isn't the same thing. I'm looking at 1 page, at close to standard width, then switching to look at the other page. Not scanning across 34" to read a line. Ya live and learn

I love mine when editing video, I have the timeline on the m34wq, and the timeline preview on the samsung G5 up above it 😁

Sometimes I am using Adobe Creative Duite on my 5k Mac Studio Display laying up another magazine or catalogue, whilst running a very large Excel model on my Z-Book’s external 1440p screen, whilst playing a game (or installing new ones) on my Alienware OLED, whilst watching the World Cup on my iPadPro…whilst billing 2 clients for the same hours 😏
