New PC Spec (build options and questions)

<New Proposed Spec in the newest reply to this thread>

Why Are You Upgrading: I have come into some money and want to treat myself.

Budget: 3,500 approx.

Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP but not in a rush, would rather be patient and have the right spec/set up.

Use Case: Gaming & life tasks.

Are you buying a monitor: Yes (I think for the quality of PC an upgrade on monitor is required). I will be investing probably in the Gigabyte M27Q.

Your Monitor Resolution and desired frame rate: Max quality for the price I want to pay for the PC.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts? Not fussed.

Overclocking: ? I don't have the technical knowledge for this.

It was very clearly outlined why the previous thread was closed, thank you for re raising it with the required information.

The only thing that was missing was a pound note figure for the budget, I am confused as to why the thread had to be closed and a new one opened. Either way, it isn't my forum so I didn't purposely break any rules. I hope you have above all the information now required, if there's any more I am more than happy to supply what is required.

Pointer, on any forum when you sign up you agree to read the new members section before posting. In that section, one of the stickies is what's required information when posting about spec advice. A lot of that was missing from your initial post so you were linked to that article again, and then further failed to give the requested information after 4 or so posts. It was closed to give you time to familiarise yourself with that article before posting again.

It's very frustrating for us to keep having to ask the same questions time and time again.

We will have to agree to disagree as I posted everything and edited the post to include the data you had asked for. Subsequently I have now reposted it to a new thread as you have asked and hope it fits the 'rules'. If it doesn't please let me know and I can amend again.

I think I have settled on this as the final version, is there any obvious errors?

As you fill storage devices up they slow down, you want your OS running at it's best always
1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 6500MB/sW) - Faster general storage. Looks spot on mate, probably overkilling it on the motherboard but that's never a bad thing if it's still in budget

Final thing I am torn on is going for either;-

Corsair 5000D case with Corsair iCUE 150i ELITE CAPELLIX

or

Coolermaster Masterbox TD500 with Corsair iCUE 100i ELITE CAPELLIX

The H150i would be drastic overkill but it does look really nice and suit the aesthetics of the 5000D more

I can't remember which Coolermaster case it is but one of them is funny with the radiator placements, just worth double checking if the H100i can be roof mounted and if it can then it's a great choice as well

I would avoid the 64GB of RAM. The AM5 systems need overclocked on the RAM to run at full speed, otherwise the rate halves when going from 2x to 4x.

2x16GB is more than enough RAM for a general purpose system. You're not future proofing anything. It's like buying an 8 seater family wagon over that sporty little drop top when you don't even have a family

Is there any reason for the Strix motherboard? I can't imagine what you're getting for the money. Don't get me wrong, I overshot my motherboard requirements quite some way too, but I had my eyes open when I set fire to the money for no reason

I would avoid the additional fans too. Even for the aesthetics you're just going to introduce noise with no real benefit.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your comments, noted re: the RAM, I will drop to 32GB I think I was playing around with small price incrementals and didn't reset it.

The MOBO I found to be the most aesthetically pleasing and like you say I know it's over cooking it but I can't find solid reviews of the Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX or the Asus TUF Gaming X670E which were the other options.

The fan situation is because I saw that the case only comes with 2, so the 120mm for the back and then I thought that the 3 extra case fans on the front would support cooling the 4090 GPU?

Remember that you have 3 fans on the AIO as well though ;)

The X670E is pretty good, but really you don't need anything past the B650 TUF which is by far the best value. Between the TUF and the Strix X670E I would probably opt for the Strix too, but the B650 is definitely the best value, it only sacrifices one PCIe5.0 down to PCIE4.0, which isn't even utilised yet.

The only thing I am cautious about regarding the Strix X670E-Ais the aesthetics of silver, I really wish they had the Strix X670E-F which is the same board but with all black aesthetics. Do you think PCS would allow me to buy the MOBO separately and everything else from them for the build?

Other than that can I just check with regards to B650 do you mean the TUF gaming B650 or the B650 plus (non TUF)?

TUF gaming for sure. The Prime boards aren't as premium/good.
