Hey! Looking at my first PC build as the guys I all play with are PC players (WarThunder, Hell let loose, Ready or not (mainly shooters)) and need to stop being a console peasant 😅. A mate has been helping me massively and I’m mainly copying his setup as i have the budget but thought might as well get a few extra pointers/tips to make the most of it!

This is the build I’m looking at, I’ll be using the i150 cooler not the i100 (needed to select the 100 as the 150 is currently out of stock), my monitor is a Samsung and is full HD 1920x1080p but can upgrade if you think it would be better!

Trying to hang about the 3500 mark, ideally not over 3800 but limit would be 4000.

Won’t be ordering for a few weeks as currently deployed but once I get back I’ll be hoping to get it ASAP!

Thanks for reading and hope to get some good feedback!

That rig is a great gaming spec. The bottleneck will be the monitor, it's only 1080 vs a 4K monitor that this machine would be more than capable of running. So I would def factor in the cost of updating monitor to a decent 1440 one at a min, but 4K ideally.

Other tweaks I might suggest:
  • Remove Norton, it's complete bloatware, Windows has a good AV application included for free
  • Remove the Artic paste, the cooler will come with paste preapplied
  • Pay an extra few quid to up warranty to Silver
You could trim some specs back (less ram, 3080 instead of TI, etc) if you needed to bring budget in a bit, but if you're comfortable with the price, nothing wrong with a bit of flex ;)

Fully agreeing with @IRLRobinS, here's the build I'd go for:

Case
COOLERMASTER MASTERCASE H500M GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Eight Core CPU (3.4GHz-4.5GHz/100MB CACHE/AM4)
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING (USB 3.2 Gen 2, PCIe 4.0) - ARGB Ready!
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO DDR4 3600MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 Ti - HDMI, DP, LHR No real point in paying loads extra for the Asus model given it gains nothing. Personally, I'd not pay the extra for the Ti model over the 3080 10GB, given the limited improvement
Graphics Card Support Bracket

PCS ARGB GRAPHICS CARD SUPPORT BRACKET
1st M.2 SSD Drive
500GB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 6900MB/R, 5000MB/W)
1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 530 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 7300MB/R, 6900MB/W) Get a second M.2 drive for game storage as drive speed will make an increasingly big difference, especially at 4K
1st Storage Drive

2TB Samsung 870 QVO 2.5" SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (up to 560MB/sR | 530MB/sW) You could just go for a 4TB drive, but this is a little cheaper...
Power Supply

CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIESâ„¢ MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET 850W is theoretically enough, but I'd spend the extra to be on the safe side
Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR iCUE H100i ELITE LCD Display RGB CPU Cooler As you say, actually get the H150i
Thermal Paste

STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT

Then you morally must get a high-refresh 4K monitor to go with it. I'd suggest the Gigabyte M32U for £719 from Currys.

Gone with a slightly different loadout. The 5800X3D is AMD’s top gaming CPU, but it’s uses are fairly niche. You’re only really going to benefit from the extra cache at high refresh 1080p, and some INCREDIBLY CPU intensive games I.E MSFS. At 4K that’s not noticeable. Therefore I would instead opt for the 12700k, which IMO is a better all round CPU, and gives you at least one more generation of CPU on the motherboard too.
The price to performance between the 3080 and the 3080ti makes it hard to recommend. You’re paying upwards of 30% more for a 5-10% performance increase. This late in the 3000 series cycle, with the 4000 series GPUs dropping later in the summer it is a tough one to recommend.

It will be worth revisiting this once you’re back as prices may have changed by then.

Monitor wise, the Gigabyte M32U is a great entry level pick. At a slightly pricier end the MSI MPG321UR-QD is probably the best pick at around the £900 mark.
