Got my new order and couple of issues, there is a low pitched grinding sound coming from a fan somewhere inside, its incredibly irritating, my 10year old desktop's fans were more pleasant to listen to.

Im wondering if it is the graphics card as gtx1660 seems to have known fan sound problems if its from gigabyte.

Second issue is the sound from the Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy™ FX OEM is messed up. Im having to use onboard sound.

If I cant fix the noisy fan issue will have to send it back.

With a suitable length of wooden dowel or similar used as a simple stethoscope, you could quite easily find out where the noise is coming from....

We wouldn't have recommended the sound card. There isn't any reason to have one of that ilk nowadays with how good the on-board sound is. It's just an added complication where it doesn't need to be there.

As for the grinding noise, I would definitely investigate inside the case to find where the actual noise is coming from.

Personally I use my finger to slow the fan down by applying pressure to the centre bearing of any potential culprits in order to slow/stop them. You could also apply a small bit of tape to each fan to stop them from turning, switch on the PC and then release the tape one at a time to find the offending fan.

Once you know which one it is, you can raise an RMA with PCS to either return or offer to replace it yourself if they can forward ship you one.

Scott thanks for the reply much appreciated

I reckon indeed it is the graphics card as when I stopped games/video the sound went away in 15 mins, then returned when I started games again.

what am i going to swap the gtx1660 with though? for similar performance but quieter fan? I wouldnt want to swap it for another gtx1660 at this point as i'd be paranoid problem will come back.

Up to yourself there I'm afraid. If you're 100% certain it's to do with the GPU and nothing to do with the other fans (Still undetermined btw as the CPU fans will spin up during gaming too) then I would tend to try another GPU that's the same. If that didn't work I would want something else but if the card is noisier than it should be then it's more than likely just a faulty fan on the card.

I’m inclined to agree on this one. An RMA on the GPU would be the way to go, PCS will ship you one out and you return the (potentially) dodgy one with the courier.

Yep that would be the best way to go, but I'd still check the other fans as @Scott described first

this might be a silly question but im conerned about gently pressing the fans on the graphics card to stop them spinning as pressing on the fans will create torque against the pci slot on the motherboard and potentially dislodging electrical contacts there while in operation.

that doesnt sound safe

You don't need to apply any pressure, just use a pencil or something to block the fan.

I did some investigating gently applying pressure to all fans inside but it doesnt seem to be any of them, the sound seems to be coming from the enclosed area that contains the hard drives and SSD card so im not sure if theres a fan in there or its coming from the PSU unit.

It could be the PSU whine, it can happen. It's rare enough in the RMx models but no unheard of.

It generally goes away after a couple days but if it doesn't then it'll likely need changed. It's a pain mate sorry to hear that, if you have the silver warranty then PCS should be able to sort it out for you just means being with your PC for a while

Unless you're confident you can make the change yourself

It must be the PSU, it sounds like its coming from bottom base of the enclosure , its not the SATA HDD , its a continuous grinding sound that *sometimes* goes away all on its own then comes back on its own, mainly when I start doing youtube.

I thought it was the graphics card but its almost certainly not as I listened very closely with side panel removed and checked other case and CPU fans.

I bought this PSU because it said it was ULTRA QUIET but obviously not?

Take the PSU out and check that the grill on the bottom hasn't been pushed in against the PSU Fan, in fact you should be able to see it through the case if you remove the mesh grill from the bottom of the case that covers this area:
