New PC intermittently crashes out of OS, due to 3080 - now doesn't POST / can't get into BIOS

My new machine (specs pasted below) is not happy at all.

In both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.4, it crashes out even when not loaded after 5 to 50 minutes, and with no obvious triggers.

Sometimes I can still access the machine over ssh (in Ubuntu), and can see that there is a problem with the GPU throwing a fit.

I cannot see anything on any monitor either over DisplayPort or HDMI.

In Windows 10, the diagnostic logs show that there is a LiveKernelEvent type 141 - a bit of googling suggests that this is the GPU.

Drivers are all up-to-date in both OSs, both OSs are as up-to-date as possible.

I am now faced with not being able to get into the BIOS - error beeps are wither no VGA detected or hardware fault.

RMA time? Or is there something else I can do to troubleshoot.

Thanks!

This is where it's handy if you post the full specs.... did you order with or without windows?

The fact it's strugging to read the card in Linux as well does suggest there may be a hardware issue, but there are a few things we can try before RMA'ing it.

Is ubuntu locally installed or virtual?

What are the error beeps? 1 long and 3 short?

I appear to have pasted too little!

Ordered without an OS installed - came with the locked down Windows 10 from PCSpecialist.

That's along the lines of what I am thinking too - I'm happy to take on board any suggestions.

I'm dual booting (triple, if you include the PCSpecialist OS partition).

Sometimes (which means no VGA, as I understand it). Sometimes it's one long and four short (which is a generic hardware error code I think).

I'm trying to boot into the PCSpecialist tested partition, but I can't even get past the POST at the moment. Which also makes it difficult to boot into a live USB.

So hold on, you've got the PCS boot still there?

Then a separate Windows 10 boot

Then a Linux boot?

That's correct.

Once I had everything up and running in Windows, I was going to lose the PCS boot partition.
I would just delete the PCS partitions. You don’t need them at all.

Make sure you delete all of them.

Then remove the GPU including the power cables and reinstall it, sometimes things can shift in transit, hopefully it’s something as simple as that. Also verify that the PSU GPU cables are properly inserted at the PSU. Also make sure that it’s 2 separate GPU power cables and not one going to a splitter.

The Great Reseating™ has taken place, but, unfortunately, has not been successful.

The beeps are consistently 1 long, 3 short, and the VGA light on the mobo is lit.
