New PC I'm Planning On Getting Next Month For Gaming & Work

Planning on getting a new PC for the first time in 4 or so years next month, but really all I'm doing is clicking big numbers and hoping for the best.

I'll be wanting to play the latest games and do video editing work for my full time job with this machine, is there anything particularly heinous that I've picked or am I good to pull the trigger next month?

We love you Ukraine
Intel are the processors that you run a mile from these days, they perform awfully (bsods are an every day occurrence) are expensive, impossible to cool and use significantly more power for that poor performance.

what’s your max budget?

what make and model monitor are you using?

I'm pretty much where I want to be budget wise, I think I've got around £200 - £300 wiggle room?

My main monitor is a Dell S2721HGF 27 Inch 144Hz, and I have a crappier Samsung monitor as my second. I might upgrade those at some point one day down the line maybe but probably not any time soon as I'm quite happy with them at the moment.

I think people said similar things about Intel when I got my last PC and posted the specs here (I'd already bought the computer), I haven't had any problems with that one but it's a shame to hear that they haven't gotten any better over time as when I used to be a Laptop gamer they were always my maker of choice. I should swap the CPU out, then?

Doesn't actually answer the question?

Urm, kind of confirms they were right, you're upgrading half way through a normal lifecycle, if it had been an AMD system, you could have simply upgraded the processor and GPU and had cutting edge performance again.

As it stands the system your replacing has cost you double what you paid for it due to having to replace it so early.

Oh my bad!

This PC is currently coming in at £3,681 including VAT, £3067.50 without.

On the topic of the PC having to be replaced so early, I think I made several bad choices back when I configured my current build, hence me coming to the forums for advice BEFORE pulling the trigger this time around!

This is what I would opt for with your uses. If you want the cutting edge of gaming you could hold out for the 9950X3D which will be out next month, but there won't be that much of a difference at your resolution to be honest. The option will always be there for upgrades.

Drive setup is to keep gaming and professional separate. 1TB should be fine for your work usage (current projects etc). The primary drive is just intended for Windows & Software you are using, keep it as trim as possible to keep it working optimally, going larger for the primary just means you'll stick more in it and that's not a good thing.

If you wanted all white you could opt for the below. Note that I would want the X870E motherboard in there but there's an error in the configurator saying you can only have 2 M2 drives..... which is incorrect. If you wanted the below I would contact PCS about the X870E motherboard with the config as it is. I would also ask if 6000Mhz RAM was available as the White options are pretty thin on the ground. If they couldn't supply it, I would opt for the bottom choice and buy my own rather than have the 5600Mhz offering.

Wow, thanks Scott!

Is the lesser price really just due to the switch from Intel to AMD? How long could I expect a machine like this to last me as a daily driver workhorse and gaming rig?

8 - 10 years is what we’d design a system to last for. That’s with expected GPU upgrades and perhaps cpu later down the line as normal

You were over-spending on the GPU by opting for an overpriced one, the other flavours are fine, there's not much between any of them.

The other change is I didn't include the platinum warranty so that would need considered as well. I tend to only opt for silver warranty personally, but this is an individual choice.
