New PC build, but what gfx card to build around?

Good morning all,

It's coming to that time when I'll be building a new pc via this lovely company, as always! But I've been out of the loop for a bit so looking for advice on the graphics card to build around.

FYI I am currently running an 8GB AMD RADEON™ RX 5700 XT so pretty much anything will be an upgrade. I will not be chaging my monitor, which is a Razer Raptor 27.

I would prefer to not go with amd this time. I'd prefer to go back to Geforce. I'm aware that the 50series is here or soon here but I would imagine it may be slight overkill for my monitor.

I don't really have a budget in mind though I will have around 4000gbp for the pc build. It will be a desktop, full case.

My gaming needs vary, I occasionally play big new releases and most work "to a degree" but I'd like to get back to everything working very well, for a few years. The last big game I tried was Avowed and that looked pretty good on high and ran quite nicely. I also use my pc for video and photo editing.

Thank you for any advice and suggestions!

Youve got an AM4 build haven’t you? Why are you looking to replace the whole pc rather than upgrading it, kind of defeats the point of a custom pc? Plus you’ll get more performance by upgrading

If I were in your shoes, which is how I generally try to spec systems for people on here, I would definitely look at upgrading your current system rather than buying new, as you’ll get more value from it.

GPU wise we have the 9070(XT) and 5070 releasing next week, we will have to see where they land in terms of 3rd party benchmarks and pricing, but if you’re sticking with your current 1440p that will likely be your best bet, or you can look at the 7800XT as a last gen option, depending on how it stacks up price and performance wise.

If you want to gift or sell your old system and buy new, you have a very generous budget to do this, which you can get a top end system and a high end monitor to pursue as well. I would definitely be contemplating OLED if I had that sort of budget available to me.

But obviously your money, your choice, you have a lot of options available to you.

In order to answer the most obvious question, it's a new build as my current pc goes on to my stepson in the hope he will move on from roblox (!).

I am, in the back of my brain, considering an oled monitor. I have a steam deck and boy, I know how good oled looks! But I am still very much in love with the rock steadyness (?) of my raptor, lol.

As daft as it may sound, I haven't ever really "enjoyed" the RX 5700 XT. I can't say why, it's just a feeling. When i started thinking about a new build, I went immediately to the 40 series as I'd like to return to the company.

Nvidia 4000 series stopped production a while ago and there are no more 1440p and above GPUs available. The 5000 series have replaced them

In that case, this is where I would look. This will be ready to just add in a 5070 when they drop next week. There is headroom in the PSU to allow for a GPU upgrade down the line if you wanted to step up to a higher resolution and/or an OLED display at some point. Having done this earlier this year I can personally recommend this, but again, it’s your money, your choice.

Nice to see PCS is now offering 6000MHz CL30 RAM, as that is right in the sweet spot for the AM5 CPUs.

I wouldn't consider the 5070, it's woefully under provisioned for VRAM for even 1440p, the 5070ti is the minimum really for any worthwhile system.
Ah true, I forgot the VRAM, that 12GB really is disappointing, you would really hope they bring out the 16Gb Super variant sometime next year…
5070ti it is then, I suspect that the 9070XT will beat it for price to performance, but if you want a 16GB Nvidia* card the 5070ti is probably the one.
