New PC Black Screen on first boot. 5080 issue?

Hi all,

First post. Hopefully I've added enough info. Let me know if not. Spec, photos below/attached

My PC arrived today. Unfortunately I can only get a black screen.

The only thing I can see that may be an indication of the issue is a red light on the motherboard. On boot the DRAM light is on, but goes away. Then the VGA light comes on and stays on.

I'm not familiar with pc building or set up. Hence picking a pre built. I'm fine with some basics but I'm pretty lost from here.

I followed the steps for set up on the welcome guide and in the emails I received specific to my set up. The hdmi cable is in the GPU etc.

All fans and lights are working for the GPU, CPU cooler case fans.

On first boot attempt I left it for probably a good 30+ minutes hoping it might be related to the initial set up. But no change at all to the screen at any point.

I have tired different hdmi cables, monitors, ports. All just black screen. The monitors do recognise the device though. As they don't go into power saver mode like they do if there is no input. They just sit on a black screen.

After reading other posts, I tried the motherboard hdmi and other ports. Also just black screen on both monitors.

Nothing seems to be loose or damaged in transit. But I'm really not familiar with building PCs so can't say for sure. I've checked all of the cable connectors I have access to and they all seem solid.

Reading through other posts on here and elsewhere. It seems like it could be a 50 series card issue with drivers or pcie settings that can be changed in the bios? But I don't think I can even get to those steps if I can see anything?


Thanks for reading through. Any suggestions would be appreciated, but I've raised it with PCS too. So I might just have to wait I guess and send back.

I don't have one unfortunately. Tired multiple hdmi that I know work, and usb c through the motherboard that also works with my monitor but just black screen in all cases.

If it's the VGA light, then that usually means the GPU isn't initialising...but if it's doing the same thing when connected to the motherboard HDMI slot then it's obviously not even initialising the onboard graphics.

You could try detaching the 5080 and seeing if at least BIOS comes up from the onboard graphics, and then see if it gets into Windows...if so you can check if GPU drivers are installed. Then you can reinstall the 5080 (ensuring the power cable is securely inserted) and see if it will still boot up.

It's unheard of for both teams onboard graphics & GPU to have broken in transit...as you'd expect the system to have been up & running & tested before it was despatched.

The GPU shouldn't need to be disconnected to switch to on-board graphics as it should only switch to whichever output(s) are connected...but having on-board graphics does assist in troubleshooting.

It meant the PC wasn't able to post properly with the GPU connected, disconnecting it has allowed it to post so you can see on board display output. But that shouldn't be necessary.

Could just have been the GPU had come slightly adrift in transit, removing it and plugging it back in may restore normal boot.

Well Windows set up finished. After an hour or two of restarting and messing around with passwords, pins resetting and recovery keys I've got some progress.

The VGA light seems to be gone now after start up. Hdmi through the motherboard works with the GPU plugged in now. When it didn't before. But hdmi through the GPU is still not working. And overall it seems very unstable, lots of black screen still, sometimes with the cursor, sometimes the screen is on but no inputs work.

Maybe something is just loose on a connections I can't see. Or something like that. Shutting it down and unplugging a cable is one thing, but I don't want to mess around and make things worse.

I'll wait for PCS to come back to me, or try getting hold of them by phone tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions though, at least I got a bit further.

What's you monitor refresh rate?

Can you force it to 60hz and see if that fixes it?
