New laptop has zero battery capacity

I recently bought a new laptop here, and I noticed when I woke up one morning, it required charging to switch it on, despite having been shut down for about 8 hours since I last used it. I then tested to see how long it would last while on, so i unplugged the charger, and the laptop instantly shut down (from 38% battery). Then when I plug it in again, the charge starts from 0% and starts climbing again. So the battery seems to be completely non-functional. This happened on both the unlicensed windows OS that it came with, and ubuntu that I installed.

Everything I can find online seems to suggest the battery is (already) dead. I will most likely be requesting a refund, but I suppose this is a last attempt at asking if anyone has had the same issue and if there's an easy fix.

Also, just to be clear, I have never seen the battery actually working. I only got it out the box and tested it a few days ago.

You wouldn’t be eligible for a refund as the system is working fine. Batteries are very dependent on how you use them ie if you have hibernation set and shut down the laptop you will have never actually powered it off as it would have been in a permanent sleep state which would decrease battery life.

if you only recently ordered it then yes would point to a faulty battery in shich case it would be replaced under warranty (battery warranties are 6 months)

You can check battery health by opening cmd as admin and type

powercfg /batteryreport

If necessary just get a replacement battery

it's not just when i shut it down though, it's even when it's turned on, and battery is 100%, if i pull the charger out, it immediately shuts down, like a desktop

Yes, as said, if it’s been in hibernation, it will have permanently been on which rapidly degrades battery

If you go to your order page, you can sometimes have the option to purchase a replacement battery or simply reach out to PCSpecialist via your account inbox. I had to do the same for my laptop, where the battery would essentially shut down after 5-10 minutes of being unplugged.
