New laptop 12 year needed upgrade final selection?

Im trying to decide on what i need to choose for my new machine, ive been due a upgrade for over 12 years but im not as savy on what these different things all mean in regards to different ssd choices ect and could really use someone to hold my hand a bit with a large purchase like this, ive got a budget cap of £2000 and right now feel set on it being on a laptop. i want to use this machine for as long as i have been my old thing until it just cannot handle games on low anymore so going for the best on things i cannot upgrade and adding extra storage ect later to keep within the budget is something thats in my mind the right idea

Gaming is my main want for this but the reason a laptop and not a desktop (desktop replacment laptop is fine it can be a chonk) is i actually live in a Van and need to be able to close the lid and put it into a storage cupboard, take it into other places easily and dont want to carry a extra screen although a mini pc/ small desktop tempts me combined with a small screen, i just dont have room for a full size tower unfortunately. (power would not be an issue it will be plugged in for anything hungry) i think as i cannot upgrade a laptops Graphics card later on this is where i should be focusing the budget

is alot of ram needed or gaming or is that down to the actual graphic card?

i dabble in 3D modeling but not a professional as a secondary use for the new beasty so would like a 17inch screen as thats what im used to and feel this is a must requirement is on my list, i tried a laptop with a smaller screen and did not like it

i think a minimum of 1TB as the 500G i have now seems to require me to be constantly uninstalling games to play another but would like more storage ofc these are where i am getting confused with the choices mainly

use a headset so not worried on its sound quality or noisyness of fans
would anyone mind making up a configurator for me to use as a base idea or even the actual purchase

this is what ive gone for so far i think, from what i can tell it seem to be this v the defiance with the 3080max-q

Only thing I would suggest is save 400 quid and go with the 3070 Max Q, the difference is not nearly enough to warrant that price jump, and you can probably overclock the 3070 slightly to match the 3080 performance.
Overclocking a mobile GPU - as if it aint going to be hot enough already...

Overclocking a GPU supplied as part of a PCS build will void the warranty

Apparently these 3070 parts run pretty cool. And I didn't know about the warranty issue, either way the difference is marginal - definitely not worth 400.

im looking at 2 different builds, budget is max £2k

the two choices are i believe between the ionico and a defiance, with everything the same apart from the gpu choice, the difference cost a little more for a 3080 max-q defiance just dabbing over the budget but would it be worth it for longevity.... ive tried to research this and from what i can tell the ionico's max-p? card is almost on par with very tiny gains going to the 3080 thats if the ionico is actually a max-q card despite not saying it is

anyone able to tell me what the card in the ionico is?

Here on reddit is a guy which got its Ionico just today. It's the 15" but 17" is the same.
As expected (as it's like other rebranders)
Ionico RTX3070 = 115W + 10W selectable overclock (via BIOS) = 125W. Plus 15W Dynamic Boost in case of CPU at low utilization.

AKA RTX3070 Max-P. Can't find anything higher than that. Plus MUX switch for straight dGPU connection.

Ionico just got received by a guy on Reddit:
HERE

it has a RTX 3070 at 115W + 10W overclock + 15W Dynamic Boost.
AKA 3070 Max-P.

If you're not playing 4K (on an external monitor) and need the 16 GB VRAM of the Defiance I'm guessing full 140W RTX 3070 shreds the 3080 Max-Q.
You're not future proofing with a Max-Q without MUX switch. A thing the Ionico has.

I would encourage you to push the 1st SSD at 512 GB. Samsung SSD at 512 GB is o much faster than 256 GB. SSD goes speedier the larger they are.
For the Windows install, unless you have lying around another licence of Win7/Win10 from an old PC, you're ok with your choice.

i have the room in the budget, so ill bump the ssd up thankyou in the samsung list im only seeing 500gb ones so assume that, although for not much more i can turn that into a 1TB PCS PCI is that a worse ssd with more space? if i remove the licence from a old laptop does it render it useless? i was hoping to pass it on to a friend

For SSD: I think Samsung is way faster than PCS at same size. PCS is perfect for storage.

For Windows:
Yes, it becomes unactivated. Not really useless, but I don't know. Probably MS wouldn't not know which laptops is the one to have the licence for, too much trouble.
