New Gaming Rig

Hey all,

Gonna slap down some money on a brand new rig intended for high quality gaming at 1080p 60fps+ and to last me well into the future for next gen.

My queries are mostly around cooling and fans i guess, not too sure if i need more or less? Also, if liquid cooling is more risky as opposed to a dedicated CPU fan?

If you are using a 1080p monitor then the GPU is complete overkill, you will never use its potential, a 1660 Ti (or push the boat out completely and go 2060 Super) would be more than enough to comfortably play on high settings on a 1080p 144Hz monitor.

I recently went through the process of putting a spec together myself, and on a 1440p 165Hz monitor the 2070 Super is more than capable, just so you have a comparison. Overspecing the GPU looks nice but you wont gain any benefit from it, the monitor will bottle neck the build so the GPU will sit half idle.

WiFi is worth switchig to the AX200 (£18) very heavily recommended WiFi card (even over the more expensive options)

If you might want to upgrade things like the CPU in a few years, worth going for a 550 motherboard.

Sound card is probably not needed, onboard sound is meant to be far, far better than it was, only very high quality audiophile standard headphones/speakers would benefit from it.

With the 3900X CPU its also worth going for a high quality cooler, H100i RGB costs more but is a far better model, and will mean increased lifespan and more stable temps. The H100i is also a completely sealed unit, I dont think you have any risk of it going wrong unless you damage it yourself.

If you are looking at the sort of budget your spec leans towards, its also worth getting a M.2 SSD, far quicker than a normal SSD, can still pair it with the HDD you have selected as bulk storage, the M.2 would then have the operating system etc on making the entire system much quicker

Ive made a few changes, worth getting a proper expert to look at it though.
Switched the CPU down to the 3800X as well, the 3900X is overkill for what you mention, spec below is a kinda top spec for 1080p, also leaves the ability to go 1440p at a later date if you upgrade the monitor.

If you have Win 10 already on an old system you can also transfer the licence and save a bit of money there, if staying with 1080p for the forseeable future you can easily drop down to a 1660 Ti GPU, should you ever upgrade to 1440p you can upgrade the GPU at the same time and there are new graphics cards due towards the end of the year, so might as well save money for time being.

Get one of the mods or someone whos far more aware of putting builds together to have a look over, they helped me massively with my build and will be able to give far more info/tips than I can.

There are a few things that need looking at and changing. Your motherboard for one, you really need a 570 with that CPU. The cooler might also not be sufficient for the CPU and these two things could lead to problems.
