Hello, looking at the below pc. I've read up about the latest 14th gen cpu's having some issues. Is this something for concern? If anyone can also suggest a decent monitor for me aswell would be appreciated.

Thanks

Here's what I suggest for a top tier gaming PC.

N.B. You'll need the 9800X3D when it becomes available (November 7th).
If you require for flight simulator, you can upgrade the RAM to 64GB while staying inside budget.

Regarding the monitor, I'd go with an ultra-wide 1440p like this Samsung G8

1) DON'T GET A PREBUILT - as it will have some corner-cutting components to give the builder extra profit (cooler, single SSD, older-spec PSU)

2) the motherboard is fine (although the newer X870E motherboards have wifi7, PCIe 5 and USB4/Thunderbolt for about £30-£50 more)

3) you simply have to wait a few days for the 9800X3D

4) don't skimp on PSU and cooler (so 1200w RMx or higher, and Corsair H115i/150i cooler)

5) split your boot/storage over at least 2 SSD; primary drive for Windows/apps/launchers is a toss-up between the ULTRAFAST 1TB Crucial T700 or a fast 512GB/1TB Solidigm Pro - the Solidigm is significantly cheaper and more reliable than the Samsungs; secondary drive for game installs doesn't need to be as fast, so the 4TB Corsair one above would be perfect (reliable and fast)

6) are you planning on gaming at 4K, is that why you've picked the 4090?

7) remove the Norton malware trial

Hello,

I do normally build my own but part of me just wanted the ease of plugging in and away i go.
I only specced one storage as id add my own once recieved.

Yes 4k is the idea, having never done more than hd. hence my question about a suitable monitor etc.
Agreed norton is like a chocolate fireguard......

I mean 'pre-built' as in already configured where you don't get much choice in the components.

'Custom built' is where you pick the parts and get it assembled by a company.

PCSpecialist offer both on their website - but as above, the pre-builts tend to have some, er, 'sub-optimal' choices.

What storage do you have? If it is suitable (at least M.2 Gen 3), order a single 512GB P44 Pro as the OS drive.

Personally, I believe that QHD/Ultrawide/Superwide 1440p is the best resolution for gaming.

If you want 4K, you can maintain the 4070ti SUPER and upgrade to a new RTX 5000 when they are released next year (January-February) or go for a 4080 SUPER (if your budget allows).

Remember that a suitable 4K gaming monitor is much more expensive than a 1440p one.

We love you Ukraine
As someone that owns 4k and Superwide 1440, 4k isn't all it's cracked up to be, the benefit of ultrawide aspect ratio IMHO is far better for gaming than standard aspect ratio at 4k especially nowadays when support for ultra wide is almost universal.

Going from 1440p to 4k made no significant difference for me.

Going from anything to superwide was like going from a normal screen to a VR headset, it was a completely new experience, and even 2 years later, that feeling hasn't deteriorated.

if im honest i dont have the first idea about resolution and whats best etc. its probably clear i know nothing about pcs the more you ask!!!

and i appreciate costs are high for anything decent.

Maybe if i put my specs what im currently running would help.
Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900KF CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz
MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon
32Gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro (2x16gb)
RTX 3090 Tuf Gaming
Corsair Hyrdo 115i RGB 280mm
Corsair HX850i PSU
Corsair 5000D Case

Its not the best for high setting on flight sim. Things like iracing is fine but with the new msfs2024 just fancied getting something to really push the detail.

MSFS2020 is heavily CPU-limited, so a very fast CPU would release more frames from the 3090 you have.

For example, I've seen the 9900KF + RTX3090 producing consistently 40-50FPS at 4K Ultra, but a bump up in CPU only to the 12900K boosted the FPS into the 50-60fps range for the same flight scenario (DX11).

However, I know the 7800X3D offered even more FPS than the 13/14th gen i7/i9 CPUs with the same RTX3090.

If I were you, I'd save the GPU to put into a build based around a 9800X3D.

BTW, how many m.2 SSDs do you already have - or is everything on a single drive?

well i was tempted to just keep my current setup for my racing rig as it is perfect as is.

Currently 2 x samsung m2 drives and a ssd too.
