New Gaming PC replacing my old one from 2015.

So I'm in the market for a new PC since my old pc is well... getting a little old. Looking at taking advantage of the Samsung G7 monitor I got so I'm aiming for 1440p high refresh rate gaming.
Got something together but I'm willing to hear If anyone has any suggestions. Thank you.

I’ve rebalanced it a wee bit. The Strix motherboard isn’t a necessity for the 5800X, the TUF X570 will do the job nicely. Changed up the storage so you’ve got the 980 as your primary drive, OS and programs live on there to ensure an ultrafast boot time. The second, 1TB Intel drive is then used for your fast storage to keep your games library on. The HDD is just for general storage, music, videos, documents etc. Upped the PSU to the 850w model, this will give you headroom for GPU upgrades. Dropped the thermal paste as the cooler comes with its own high quality stuff pre-applied.

I’ve left the 3080 in there… although it’s debatable if it’s necessary. Most of us mortals can’t actually detect anything over around 120Hz so unless you’re one of the tiny percentage of people who can, the 3070Ti would be a sensible change.

Thank you so much for the help. :) Yeah I was debating between 3080 and 3070ti. Went with the 3080 for the extra overhead so I can keep playing at 120 plus into the future. Truth be told haven't even been able to try out what 240hz feels like because my poor R9 390 can't even get close to that so I most probably will be like the majority and notice no difference.

You’re welcome 🙂👍

Just bear in mind that the first thing you’ll be upgrading in the future will be the GPU. The money you’d save now could be put towards that…

But it’s completely your choice, just thought I’d raise the frames per second issue as a bit of a devils advocate 😈

Just wondering would it be worth just going down to the 5600X? I'd be losing out on 2 cores but saving £133. Can then put some of that money towards 3080 and it would then only cost £6 more than the current build with 5800x and 3070ti

I’d absolutely stay with the 5800X. Looking at it objectively, the new consoles have eight core CPUs so I’d want to keep up with them. And the GPU will always be the first thing you upgrade in time, the CPU is often with you for the entire lifespan of the system.

Okay I'll stick with the plan thank you. 5600x is great for the here and now I guess, but maybe later on I'll be missing those 2 cores the 5800x would have given me.
