Hi. I've had the same PC now since 21st December 2011. I can't believe I've gone this long without an upgrade and I'm surprised I've been able to play games like Battlefront 2 on a 550ti.

I just want help/advice to build a decent PC that I can rely on for a 1 or 2 years before I really go hard on a build. Just something that can play games without worrying if my GPU is compatible with it or if I'm going to run out of space.

I've taken these from another post as a baseline. (Desktop guide 2020 September)

I wouldn't mind getting something and paying on finance for 12 months, but if I do that surely it would be better to just have something cheaper and not as 'high end', then when the finance (during the initial 12 months) is over and I've saved some dosh, think about going bigger when more components become available.

My main desire would be decent storage but not to a point where I'm overdoing it with crazy hardware, as this could be a temporary PC for the next year or two; 2/4tb HDD, m.2 (1) SSD 500gb m2 (2) SSD 1tb. You can also select a monitor as the one I'm using is also 10 years old.

Other than that I just would like advice on a good up-to-date PC to keep me going (that isn't running on a 550ti:ROFLMAO:).

You've missed a key piece of information for someone to advise - what is your budget now then? What do you want to spend now (or on finance) for your initial purchase?

Someone might be able to then work out a system for you based on that budget that allows room for upgrading later for you.

That just depends on people's recommendations. I'm an avid video gamer, but not some tech freak who needs to get all the new latest hardware when it releases. If someone recommends that getting a £600/£900 build that performs well, that I can use it for a year or two and move to a better build is a better decision then sure, or if someone recommends just getting a £1k or above build, which would be more of a long term thing and obviously a stronger set up, if that would make more sense in the current state of affairs, sure.

For now I would want to do finance. If it's finance, I would say around £1500 or less (because I'd want to get extra's like an external hard drive, keyboard, headset, webcam and monitor, which would add another £400 to the PC build itself and make a £1.5k finance £2k)

I would say I'd like people's opinion on if getting a £1.5k plus rig is worth it right now because of the fact that so many components are out of stock (mainly gpu's). Yes I understand you can switch out a gpu, but I'd rather not have to think about doing that so soon after getting a new pc. I don't want to have to wait months for things to come in stock.

TLDR; Around £1500 (give or take a bit over or under) and below OR if it makes more sense to just do £1k or less, then get hardware that comes back in stock.

True but with him already saying he was doing 1440p now. It would cost alot to make a jump to 4K. Don't most people re-build like every 5 years or so anyway. Would still cost almost £1700-£1900 to upgrade to 4K in the next year or so if current prices stay the same. If he was looking at going 4K in 5 years time he would probably need a whole new PC. I can't see a 5600X lasting beyond 5 years.

And monitor. Which is around £800-£900 for a good 144hz 4K panel. I don't under people that want to game on a 60hz 4K panel.

Weirdly, if you want an RM PSU, the 850 is £5 cheaper than the 750 at the moment, so that makes sense on both counts.
