Hi guys,

Ordered my first system from PCS!
It's a 2nd gaming system which will also be used for work. I travel a lot and in the past 18 months have probably done 80% of my gaming on a £600, 3 year old Dell machine rather than my £2500+ desktop unfortunately for me.

Excited and slightly anxious about the build and case quality I can expect.
Read through a lot of posts on these forums before pulling the trigger, so thanks for the advice.

I couldn't wait for some of the other 15" chassis to come in to stock, this this was probably my 2nd or 3rd choice.
Hopefully it's a decent one though!

I would definitely consider bumping up the storage. You'll eat through 250gb in no time. 500GB would be the recommended minimum nowadays but on a laptop 1Tb would be strongly recommended. I would drop the Samsung for the PCS option if it helps with the funds.

Rest of the build looks excellent

Hi Scott. I'm also wondering about storage for my new laptop. Is there much of an advantage getting the Samsung over the PCS? And would Samsung for primary drive and PCS for secondary be a good way to go? I'll probably store most games on the secondary drive.

Ahh yes, I have another 250gb m2 in my current laptop which I plan to put in the new system.
Also have a couple of 500 GB Samsung evo SSDs, so will put one of them in it too.

Haven't decided the best way to go about that yet though. I'm considering either;

- Put my current 250gb drive in as the boot drive which already has Windows installed + my work data, use the new 250gb as encrypted for client data, then the 500gb Samsung for games.

- Somehow clone my current 250gb to the new one, then the 500gb for games.

- Start fresh with an OS on the new 250gb drive (the fastest of the 3), copy over as much as I can from the current 250gb before formatting it, then the 500gb again for games.

All my thoughts are based around using the fastest drives for the OS, with the larger capacity for games. Not sure how I will go about it yet, or how difficult cloning the current 250gb to the new one would be.
Any suggestions appreciated!

Put my current 250gb drive in as the boot drive which already has Windows installed + my work data

You won’t be able to transfer windows installation to the new machine as it will be configured for different hardware, you’d have to do a full reinstall.

You can transfer the license by tying it to your Microsoft account though if you wish to.

Cloning is really simple, you can use acronis for paid, or easeus or clonezilla or macrium reflect.

Would the same thing not be an issue though? That the cloned drive was configured for different hardware?

Perhaps it will be best for me to install fresh on the new 250gb - I just shudder at the amount of setting changes, registry entries and such I have made over the past couple of years.

My desktop is like Triggers broom.. it's had 17 new heads and 14 new handles but keeps on going with the same SSD holding the OS.

500gb primary with a 1tb secondary would be my choice in that case. Samsung for the primary, if the budge allows, as they are blistering fast. The PCS 1tb M2 drive would be great for a secondary.

Yes I see your point.
My desktop currently has 3x SSDs of which I plan to steal one for the laptop. I could just buy another one though.
Also as I work as a payroll system developer, I often have sensitive client data on my machine which I would quite like to encrypt on their own drive - a 250gb.
Then keep a 250gb drive purely for Windows and apps that need to be on the C drive.
Perhaps buying a 1 or 2 TB extra drive will be the best solution, though I'm not overly concerned yet as it's an easily upgradeable component for a secondary drive, but am now considering the hassle of ever upgrading the primary to a larger capacity should I ever want to.

Great, thanks for your advice. Just one question... Do you think using a 1tb Samsung for the secondary drive would be worth it over the PCS 1tb (for gaming)? Choosing the Samsung adds an extra £79 to the build, so wondering what the benefits are. Cheers.

In my eyes no! But again... in my eyes, I wouldn't purchase a secondary from PCS. I would buy the SX8200 and fit it myself

I went back and upgraded the M2 for a larger capacity while my order is still in processing.
Lets hope that moves on to production soon!
