So one thing im curious about is the motherboard. The one i have was the first one selected and really all i want to know is does it REALLY matter which motherboard i go with here? Can it be damaging having a higher end CPU like the 3900X on the default motherboard?

Yes, for the 3900 or above you really need the X570 boards. Reason is, anything under that was modified with a BIOS update to allow the newer 3000 series chips, and they’re fine with the lower end chips, but the VRM’s aren’t designed to cope with the extra power that’s required for the extra cores on the higher CPU’s.

Without knowing what the build is for though it’s very hard to give advice.

Also, what’s your max budget?

what monitor are you pairing it with, what resolution and refresh rate or make and model if you’re unsure?

thanks for the reply, its for gaming and music production. monitor i will be getting along with it is the ILLYAMA 27'' 144hz , 1440p

i think i would probably max out my budget at around 1450, 1500

so its a very bad idea to keep this motherboard then to go with the 3900x ?

Yeah, very bad idea. Motherboard would likely burn out quite quickly. Even if not, stability wouldn’t be good.
ok great save there then... Any idea what would be a step up? the selections are;

GIGABYTE B450 AORUS ELITE

ASUS® ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING

GIGABYTE X570 GAMING X

ASUS® TUF X570-PLUS GAMING

ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING

now i dont really want to spend a truck load on a motherboard so i am happy with whatever one is necessary really?

You can rebalance the whole spec within your budget, there are things you don’t need and some things you do need. Give me a sec and I’ll take a look.

I can't get it at that budget and keep the same specs, goes to over £1700

BUT, never fear, check out the Inferno L2 machine here:

£1800 worth of kit reduced to £1500, has everything you configured and more, it's well worth it.

Can I ask what you were trying to cha he from my original build ?

You’d need X570
You’d need TXm PSU as minimum.
Youd need 512Gb OS drive as minimum
On the 3900x you want the h115i Platinum cooler as ideal.
Removed extra case fans as now on cooler.

thanks for looking, but is that cooler really necessary its 120quid ? and from what iv`e watched online the amd stock cooler or even just one a little bit better is good enough? and again the wattage turns out on my build to 628W max. So why the Txm also?

That cooler is optimum on the 3900x or above. The stock cooler is NOT adequate on those chips, you’ll find it will thermal throttle and reduce frequencies.

The TXm is a higher rated PSU that the platform requires. You can’t have a high power platform without suitable components backing it up, same idea as X570 being required for the better VRM’s.
