New Build - Suggestions?

RAM all depends on the level of video editing (as does the CPU). My gut tells me the 3700X would be plenty in this case as if the uses don't warrant 32GB of RAM then they are unlikely to require more than an 8c/16t chip.

A 3 monitor setup suggests a level of professionalism, if it's programming then the high end chip/ram aren't likely to be of much cop. If it's high end video editing or photo editing then it's likely worthwhile.

Not sure how often the OP checks the thread though, going by the timeline, so may take a while to find out exact uses, in regards to profession.

At the moment I'm leaning towards 3700X, 16GB of RAM and a 2080 Super..... pocketing the rest for the monitors. That would smash all 1440p gaming requirements along with streaming/twitch etc and be more than enough for most video editing.

Currently the level of editing is like once or twice a month as I’m on vista (yuck) with 1GB ram and MB graphics and as you can imagine that’s not a lovely editing experience haha!

However, for the new system I plan to do editing daily and make content daily just right now I don’t due to my current system and can’t get the hang of editing on my Mac (windows fanboy here) no matter how hard I learn & try.

I also plan to do photoshop editing on the new system at the moment I don’t due to PS not available or smooth on Vista. Not sure if PS is RAM heavy or whatever. I pay someone at the mo to make my thumbnails probably paid someone more in total over the years than the new PC will cost 😂

My 6700k renders in real-time give or take. That's fine for me when I'm making 5-10 minute videos but if you were doing a 2 hour project or something then you could drastically reduce that rendering time with one of the crazy fast AMD offerings as described above.

What you don't want to do is spend an absolute fortune on a CPU that can render at a blistering pace when it's only going to be rendering projects that last minutes in 1080p rather than graphically intense, 30 minute, 4k masterpieces.

For hobbyist I would still say 3700X and 16GB of RAM is more than fine, the next level up would be the 3900X, 32GB of RAM and a scratch drive. I would probably recommend saving the cash to be honest. Coming from where you are at right now the 3700 with 16GB of RAM is going to be absolute lightyears ahead. If you get a year down the line, when Ryzen 3 comes out, you can pop a new silly fast chip in and double up the RAM to 32GB with a 16GB addition and you're there anyway.... only at the next level again.

Is the BE QUIET! BASE 601 TOWER GAMING CASE any good do you know? Same price and i rather like it or is the fractal S2 better?

Can the 'pcspecialist' logo be taken off the front?

I do have my own case I got back in 2016 (yes, I've really been looking to upgrade for this long) from eBuyer Black Friday (£63). It's the NZXT H440 New Edition Matte Black/Red Case with Side Window but it's likely so out-dated and old now it's probably not recommended (dunno if new stuff will even fit it!). Feel in love with the red/black look pretty quick ha.

Price up a 3950X system and then swap it out for a 3700X. The savings are very significant. I have a feeling you don't quite understand the level that the 3950X is at. People who edit video with extreme effects go for the 3900X/3950X. It's your money though

Just having issues with payment as I don't wanna do the finance as it's high APR %. Got a 27 mths 0% purchase card but doesn't cover the full system. I asked PCS if i could split payment (as i wanna pay 1.5k now anyway rest pay monthly with aim to clear in 3 months) they said not possible full sum or nothing.

For me, it would be the Corsiar MP600 or Seagate Firecuda 520 Gen 4

PCS stock the firecuda and at good prices, you won't find it much cheaper anywhere else.

The Firecuda and MP600 are PCIe 4 drives, so they're capable of getting extra speeds out of the X570 (6000mbs) boards than the other PCIe3 drives that the others all are (they max out at around 3600mbs).

The MP600 is a little cheaper simply because it was one of the first mainstream PCIe4 M2 drives, but it's a fantastic drive, if you google it with "review" added, you'll see almost unanimous 5 stars.

The only downside to the corsair is the large heatsink. That's only a downside if the board itself has a heatsink cover for the bay as obviously you'd have to leave it off to accomodate the MP600.

Thanks everyone! I've ordered the system and will share photos when it arrives (and when my new sit-stand desk is here!).

I had to update the system from the saved configuration url again as it looks like PCS dropped the RGB ram option and have shuffled the ram options around (quite a few options have disappeared - example looks like they dropped 3200 speeds so had to pay extra for 3600MHz). RGB part sounded cool for £10 extra but oh well extra tenner towards a 1440p haha.

They're no longer offering the 3200MHz, the RGB series or the other ram PCS CS told me via email.

I'd assume this is to avoid having to stock so much ram/less likely ordered?
