New build idea/updating old PC.

Hi, going to be updating my first self built PC which is several years old now which is running an i3-8350k and a 6GB Geforce 1060. I'll be mostly using the new one for gaming most FPS/AAA titles and want something with decent processing power and that'll hopefully keep up in the future and last. Haven't ordered anything and nothing is set in stone yet, just wanted to get an idea from other people with likely better knowledge than myself! £1500-1600 budget. I already have my SSDs/1x m.2 I want to self install.

My current display/s : Main - TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A (2560x1440) 144hz+, and 2nd monitor which is just an older ASUS 1080p 75hz for other apps, music/discord/browser while gaming etc.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcome.

Heya! Looks like a pretty strong start! Just a quick question first, what sizes and formats (SATA? NVME?) are the SSD's you plan to install?

Great, I’ve currently got 1 250Gb m.2 NVME, 500Gb SATA SSD and 1Tb SATA SSHD. From memory, there could be another old SATA drive. Not at home at the moment so not 100% on sizes/what I’ve changed over the years!

3x SATA 1x NVME in use at the moment.

However, I could do with going through and potentially sorting out my storage/data because it’s not super efficient at the moment, eventually it would be nice to move onto M.2 drives as this motherboard has a few spaces.

That's an interesting set of drives! I'm a little divided on what to suggest. I reckon, providing you're able to get away with 250GB as an OS drive, I'd use that as an OS drive (our normal recommendation would be 500GB) then you could use the 1TB SSHD as a general storage (documents, videos, photos) if that's something you require? The SSD we've put in here could then be used as a dedicated games drive. Below are the other suggestions I'd recommend I've mentioned below. Any questions, feel free to ask!

Case
CORSAIR 4000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE More modern, and better airflow case, also a better build quality for only £2 more
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i5 10-Core Processor i5-12600K (3.7GHz) 20MB Cache Gone for the K variant for slightly more performance and to better pair with your motherboard
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 (LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready
Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB)

1TB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (2200 MB/R, 1500 MB/W)
Power Supply
CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET Upped in both quality and wattage to better allow future upgradability
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
PCS FrostFlow 200 Series High Performance CPU Cooler Will be ample for a 12600K, if you'd rather stick to an AIO, I'd recommend the H100i PRO XT (120mm AIO's have never been a very effective way of cooling)
Thermal Paste
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT

Thanks for your response and upgrades/suggestions! Yeah it's an odd collection of drives! I have plenty of SATA cables so I can play around with storage/drives afterwards anyway as a lot of my games are already downloaded there.

I'm thinking of going to the H100i Pro XT actually, heard good things about it. Worth that little extra, cooling isnt something you want to cheap out on I guess!

I do already have a windows 10 copy on SSD, I could just move that and reactivate/install drivers, but could be a bit of a hassle with new hardware and I've not done it before. Would be saving £ on OS though.
If you order a copy of windows is it pre installed on a chosen drive? Or is it just the USB and auth key for you install on delivery?

Thanks.

You can't transfer an OS installation, you'd need to clean install.

If you order with OS it comes fully configured.
