Hello all,

I require some help. I have never had a PC but have now decided that it’s the time to get one. I’ve built one here with the help of a friend, so I’d like some more insight.

I will be using the PC to play Warzone and general browsing only. My budget is as shows, around the £1000 mark but nothing beyond £1100

You're effectively building an old machine, but can see why with the given budget and current prices. There might be a few tweeks to help but need to know a little more. Have you also looked at the prebuilt market, you might have better luck with specs on off the shelf systems, its at least work checking out with prices like they are.
Be aware, it would likely end up as a throwaway build, rather than a proper custom build with an upgrade path to it.

What monitor(s) have you got/getting? resolution and refresh rate is important

With prebuilts I have found it hard to find the specs that are exactly needed for what I’m actually using the PC for. I currently have the Samsung C27RG5 Monitor, it has 240Hz refresh rate and is 1920x1080.

You won't hit the framerates that monitors is capable of for that kind of budget on Warzone. I think you'd need something like a 3080 to hit 240Hz. The 1660 Super is probably about as good as you can afford, and online benchmarks suggest it will hit ~100FPS.

@Steveyg's build looks great, though I'd consider dropping down to the 3600 (non-X) to save a little more with no significant loss of performance. I'd also personally want the Tuf motherboard for a bit more future upgradability, but it's not crucial for this price point.

Would @Steveyg’s build be able to hit the framerates the monitor is capable of?

No nothing at that price range would, you'd need to up your budget significantly to get to 240Hz at 1080p, you'd get around 80-100FPS comfortably though
I’m okay with that, as stated this is my first PC. I’d like to start somewhere which could be upgraded in the future.

From Here, you can then add over time,
Separate out the drives so you have a fast OS drive and use the 1TB for games only by adding something like a 500GB Samsung 980 Pro
Buy some decent fans to fill the cooling out for the case (only comes with one front one rear)
When you switch to 1440p buy a new GPU (the 240Hz 1080p monitor has a shelf life)
Might add a slight better air cooling choice (noctua maybe) but unless upgrading cpu liquid AIO would be overkill.

The 850RM means youll have no issues with power if you go for a top tier GPU/1440p monitor, not as good as the RMx but not bad and still fully modular.Same price as the 750W RMx which would realistically mean a 3070 as a ceiling and less future beathing room.

If you cut back further on parts you start risking a throwaway machine really, its close to the line.

Essentially, this will help me off the go and allows me to upgrade in the future when needs be?

It will yes I think @sibun1 did a better job at building a budget build than I did. He went for a better motherboard and more room on the PSU at the cost of storage space. Which is a brilliant trade off as storage can be easily added later

Yes. Call it a skeleton, and you can then flesh it out with parts.
If you could squeeze a little extra, change the cpu to a 5600X, you'll end up with a much better overall platform at the end (and to start)

It'll add £90 to the cost upfront though.

How hard would it be to change a CPU? I wouldn’t mind purchasing it at a later date and fitting it in if possible. Also is it a drastic change if I use the one you recommended initially.

You can watch a couple of Youtube videos on how to do it, it's simple enough but requires a lot of patience and attention to detail. Removing the thermal paste from the CPU cooler will be the most annoying part and then reapplying it with the new cooler.

But then again if you change the CPU you could also go for an better CPU cooler like a Corsair unit that comes with paste pre-applied

It would put you straight onto a modern platform, rather than one from last year (or earlier).
Im told, its easy to change CPU's, i've never done it myself (I was asking similar questions myself about swapping to a 5800X)
It was recommend to me to watch a load of youtube videos showing it step by step.
