Need some help please, Corsair 680x case

DPD delivered my build this morning without a GPU as I had managed to pick up a 3080 from Scan last week. However, it will not fit

The main issue seems to be the H150i rad which has fans either side of it. It is too big to fit along the top of the case, but should it really need 6 fans attached? Should PCS, to improve the whole airflow, have fitted 2 or 3 of the fans along to roof of the case instead?

The case does give the option of vertically mounting the card and it would fit that way. However, I have only seen negative comments around the card sitting too close to the glass panel and causing heat issues.

No expert at all, any advice would be much appreciated. Pretty gutted right now.

If you didn't specify how you wanted the fans/rad configured then the builder would just have done what they thought was best at the time. After all, they didn't know what size GPU you were going to fit, so wouldn't know the config they chose would cause issues.

What RAM is fitted? They might have been able to put the cooler at the top...unless tall RAM was stopping it.

If you're sure the RAM is not going to cause an issue and there's lots of space, then you can move the cooler rad to the top of the case instead...if you're comfortable doing so.

I'm not a fan of some of the double-thick fan/rad/fan installs I've seen.

The RAM is not an issue. Just edited my post as the rad is H150i rather than H115i, it 100% will not fit along the roof.

I understand what you are saying, but would it ever be best to have six fans on the rad rather than putting them at the top/bottom of the case?

If I remove a set of the fans, should I remove the ones facing inside the case or outside the case? Should the fans be puling air through the rad into the case or exhausting out through the rad?

That makes more sense as to why it's fitted at the front (y)

But yes, I agree that it would have also have made more sense to me to put the intake fans elsewhere. Maybe they don't work well as intake fans on the top of the case, and would be noisy/less efficient as triple exhaust fans?

Maybe the correct answer (albeit a bit late now) was to configure it was a H115i RGB Pro or Capellix to the top instead (which should fit)?

Did you post your config on here originally to seek advice on the build, or was it simply an assumption that the H150i would fit fine?

I actually upgraded from H115i to H150i after advice from the forum, although at the time I was looking at a 3070. I only have the 3080 by chance.

I do have the option of side mounting the GPU as well, just not sure if it will cause thermal issues.

Did you not check the card and case sizes

I'm not sure how this question does anything other than antagonise?
From what I looked at, and I am by no means an expert, only very large cards such as the 3090 or custom cards would have an issue fitting, although it could be tight.
The issue here is that I have six fans on the rad which results in there not being enough room. I am simply trying to find advice for a solution.

Can you take a pic of the case itself?

I'm trying to picture the orientation in my head, you could remove the fans from the radiator and position them somewhere else in the case

As for vertical mounting, yes you'll get much worse thermals which can effect performance. If the case and card can be kept under wraps with enough fans moving the air through it's not a completely unviable option would just take some experimenting

I think you're saying that the cooler has the fans both sides, as a push-pull configuration. If so, this is not a great option for cooling and it seems a slightly bizarre choice on the builder's part (though maybe there was a good reason my imagination can't come up with!): it is only a tiny bit superior to having the fans on one side. I'd definitely put the fans on top of the case.

Your choice then is whether to keep using the push fans (those between the front panel and the radiator) or the pull fans (those between the radiator and the rest of the case). There is little thermal difference. If you want the fans' RGB effect visible from the outside of the case, use them in the push configuration. If you want it lighting up the inside of the case, use them in the pull configuration.
