Need some build advice, please :)

Hello!
I am doing a big upgrade from my previous one. I am getting a completely new one instead of putting stuff into this one because I am god awful with computers when it comes to handling them and the case was a nightmare for me.

I am looking for some advice on the current build I am going for, if something should be changed due to incompatibility or it would generally be better, my limit is around £2000 (VAT inc.) I have a standard understanding of parts and that's about it.
Also if anybody could explain to me how exactly WiFi included on the motherboard works that'd be fantastic (should I get it, should I not, would that mean I would not need a wireless network card, etc.)

- I mostly use my PC for MMORPG gaming/emulation + Occasional use of Art programs like Clip Studio Paint & 3D modeling programs

Heya! you've posted your previous build in a way that means we'll need to log into your account to see the build. If you follow this and scroll down it'll show you how to post a build you already own. I'd be curious to see the specs as you might well be able to make use of PCS' upgrade system where you choose the parts you'd like to upgrade then you can send your PC to them and they can fit the parts for a fee. It would be a much more sensible move with your money providing your build is in a decent state to recieve upgrades.

Also what monitor are you currently running with the PC you already own? (Either make and model or resolution and refresh rate would be ideal!)

I reckon we start with that then move onto a new build if required.

Apologies for the late reply.
Thanks for responding.

I've taken the link out because when I followed the link you gave me it still didn't work, perhaps this is because it's an old build (2017)?
Granted, I don't think it would be in the best of conditions to do anything with it so maybe it would be best to leave it out. I can always post the specs of it in a reply if you still want to see though.

As for the monitor I am using an IIYAMA GE2488HS 24" Gaming Monitor which is 60 Hz, I am looking to upgrade it but I was going to wait on it until I had some more money to spare for it if you have suggestions for a monitor as well if that's not sufficient that'd be cool too.

2017 isn't that old for a PC, I'm on 8th gen intel which released in 2017 and still finding it perfectly capable. If you're able to post the spec in text format that'd be great. Should just be Log in > Order Details box > Press Show on relevant order > Scroll to bottom and press "Post Spec to Forums" > Copy Spec > Paste in this thread.

Monitors wise, if you were to either upgrade or buy a new PC I'd recommend an upgrade. If you were to continue down the new PC route, what sort of budget would you have in mind for a monitor? If we go down the upgrade route, it'll depend on a number of factors

Yeah, I am definitely looking to get a new monitor just that I need to get the extra cash for it, I am also waiting on a picture of a monitor from my boss at work because they said they had a monitor that they could possibly hand over, unfortunately, I wouldn't know the specs on it currently.
If I end up buying my own I'd probably look around £200 or so for a monitor :)

Thanks for this! I reckon it's time for a new build- the 6700K is probably still a capable enough CPU but there's a number of other things you'd want to upgrade around it so it just makes more sense to go for a new build I reckon. The following build is what I'd recommend- any questions, ask away!

Oh, and on monitors quickly, I'd highly recommend saving up for a bit longer (to around the £300 mark) and grabbing yourself a 1440p 144-170hz monitor, it'll be far better matched to your GPU and will be a significantly better experience than 1080p (it's almost double the pixels!) If you'd like any recommendations we'd be happy to give you some although it might be worth coming back when you're ready to buy as the Monitor space is moving pretty damn quick these days.

Case
CORSAIR 4000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE Slightly larger case for better cooling and upgradability
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 12-Core Processor i7-12700KF (3.6GHz) 25MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 (LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready Higher end motherboard to better support the 12700K
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 16GB) I'd recommend a minimum of 3200mhz these days so some slightly faster RAM
Graphics Card
8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti - HDMI, DP, LHR
1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB INTEL® 670p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 3000MB/sR | 1600MB/sW) More optimal storage layout- this drive will just be used for Windows and applications
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (2200 MB/R, 1500 MB/W) This one will be used for games and active editing projects
1st Storage Drive
1TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 64MB CACHE This one will be for general file storage (storing old projects, files and photos)
Power Supply
CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET Better quality and higher wattage PSU for better future upgradability
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
Corsair H150i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler Higher end CPU cooler for the 12700K, will look fantastic in the 4000D

Thanks for this!
These changes are still perfectly within limits for me.
Since this case comes with 1x front & 1x rear included, should I potentially get the 1 extra fan or would it not do much?
Also, should I wait until I have the money for a monitor before purchasing the PC, or is my monitor still capable until I can get a new monitor? Or even should I wait on being the PC too until the GPU prices hopefully drop back down a little (considering the 3060 ti is nearing double its original price)

No worries!

The new AIO I've put in is a triple fan rad which will be placed in the front of the case. The extra fan from the front will be placed at the top with the rear one staying where it is. This'll mean you'll have 5 fans in a case that supports 6, I reckon that should be enough!

It's up to you. The PC will run fine on your current monitor, it'll just hugely limit what the build is capable of (like putting Usain Bolt on a running track and asking him to take a stroll). I'd say if you plan to upgrade the monitor within the next 6 months or so, that's about the right timeframe to purchase the PC now and upgrade the monitor later. As I'm sure you're aware, the GPU market is suuper volatile right now, it's really up to you if you'd like to chance it and wait for the market to fall. That said with falling BTC and ETH, prices are going down right now. I'll leave you with the decision! Would be interested in what you pick (y)

I decided to buy the PC today, I was going to consider waiting but I'd like to start playing some of the games I wish to play asap without suffering from the woes of my current system just being not good enough to handle it anymore.
I am assuming since this CPU comes with no integrated graphics I'll be plugging my monitor cables into the GPU directly, is this correct? I think I could have done that with what I have currently but I think I just switched the settings around instead of doing so haha.

As for my old build, what should I do with it? I don't really have much space to be keeping it around but I could attempt to finally open it up and give it a good clean and attempt to fit/refit parts to potentially get comfortable with it, but other than that I am not sure.

Also, Maybe around April, I'll be able to get a new Monitor so if you could give me some recommendations for monitors within a £300 limit that'd be great. Preferably I wouldn't want the monitor size to be too big, probably 27 inches max

Yes, that's right, when you have a dedicated GPU, if you plug into the motherboard you'll be running off the CPU graphics which will give very poor performance, and completely relegate the graphics card.

As for my old build, what should I do with it?
That's not something we can advise on, completely up to you. I normally pass mine on to family or friends.

You'd be looking at a 1440p 144Hz monitor which would normally be around 27".

This is a firm favorite and excellent value for full IPS:

Or this MSI one:

Or another slightly more expensive MSI one:

The PC arrived today, yay :)
I am having a slight issue though, my case is the 4000D like stated and it comes with the 2 back foot pieces not on and it asks me to put them on, however I have no clue in the slightest how they go on, can anyone help?

I understand how it attaches but I don't know how to keep it in place
Sorry if this is not the place to ask

We love you Ukraine
The PC arrived today, yay :)
I am having a slight issue though, my case is the 4000D like stated and it comes with the 2 back foot pieces not on and it asks me to put them on, however I have no clue in the slightest how they go on, can anyone help?

I understand how it attaches but I don't know how to keep it in place
Sorry if this is not the place to ask
Do they not just screw in?

ok, thank you. I got them in finally. my blindness and precision made it more difficult than it needed to be.

Question 2. I think my current monitor runs on DVI and the gpu on this one doesn't have them, can it still just run on HDMI as I have a HDMI cable also plugged in previously.. sorry for the poor explanation

Yes, it can run on HDMI, your GPU should have at least 1 HDMI port.

When you invest in a new monitor it will come with both a HDMI and DP cable. You should use the DP for the new monitor, but HDMI will be fine for your current monitor. :)
