need advice

my beloved 2018 vyper series laptop has served me well, however randomly tonight i went to shut it and the screen just popped open

i have never slammed the hinge or forced it shut, this is the first time in my life i've ever seen the screen open so it makes me wonder why has it happened and how much is it likely to set me back to get it repaired, i really can't live without this laptop

i would upload a photo but it keeps saying file size is too big, i will try and shrink it down some how.

but any advice from here would really be appreciated, i leave the country in 3 weeks.

the system is practically brand new i rarely use it for gaming, just got it because of the screen quality with my health problems, i am lucky to have a lafite to post with but please say this system isn't ready for the graveyard.

If you haven't had it long it will still be in warranty.

looks like the glue has come adrift for some reason.

had it 3years it’s out of warranty and I am trying to find someone to drive me to wakefield, I am ready to run in to pcspecialist like a scene out of ER just to get this problem fixed.

Ah, apologies, I just read the bit where you said it was basically brand new.

I'm sure PCS will be able to fix it for you, remember though they're not open tomorrow (Easter Sunday). They may be open Monday but it's a bank holiday and it won't be a normal work day.

But definitely give them a call on Monday to discuss. Even if it's out of warranty I'm sure they'll help out.

Hopefully you are correct, couldn’t have happened at a worse time I just paid to have all my stuff shipped from U.K. to Sweden so I don’t have much expendable cash, how much do you think roughly this would cost to get a repair? Everything still works it’s just popped out (kind of like a broken arm, you can still use it but it isn‘t something you want)

No idea I'm afraid, none of us work for PCS. I believe it just needs gluing.

I like that, seems cheap and affordable lol, I will call Monday or Tuesday and hopefully they can sort it quick I leave the country in 2 weeks

I'd definitely try them on monday after about 9am, they should be able to take a call at least, better to get in their quick.

i will, also emailed them just so i have all bases covered, calmed down a bit now as long as I don’t look at it I am fine, but I can’t close lid at all and I feel if I try force it shut I will just make it worse, so I have it on a table

worse case I will sell it for scrap and get a new ASUS laptop from Argos, hoping it won’t come to that though

On the website it states aluminium chassis just a quick question, would a metal chassis be less than likely to break on the hinge?

I am extremely careful with opening my laptop and closing it, having just had my Vyper series hinge break after 4 years of light use, I am now curious if the metal cased laptops are less then likely to fail?

will phone PCS when I get in from work and hope they can fix my Vyper but if they can’t I am contemplating just buying a new laptop I need it for work and health reasons.

Phoned them today sent more pictures to jack so fingers crossed it’s something silly and I can rest easy I let you know the outcome, spoke to my partner I only need the laptop to last 3-5 more months and I am probably going to buy a new one hopefully the repair is not going to do too much damage

Got my laptop closed and now I see what you mean with it just been glue that’s failed, sending it in Thursday I let you know what the outcome is but thank you so much for keeping me calm.

took me 20 mins to get up the courage to try close my laptops lid but it was a success

got my laptop back fully repaired and cleaned, i was really happy with the service however i asked them multiple times to check the SSD and they did indeed find a fault on it

so i phoned into pc specialist to pay for a replacement SSD hard drive, first one was rude as hell because payment didn't go through due to laptop delivery address or some weird error, when i asked them to sort it the advisor said "its not his problem it's mine" so i hung up, called back in and got another one, the payment went through and i got an apology

after multiple attempts telling them not to replace the m.2 ...the part they replaced was the m.2 so i called back in to get it changed only to find out my laptop is now scanned on a van and been returned to me :'(

fortunately i had an m.2 enclosure so i could recover my files, but still cant understand why they would replace a functioning drive when they know the SSD is faulty.

anyway still love the company but the customer service can often be a bit rude.

forgot to mention they even sent it back with the faulty hard drive still inside.
