Music Production Build - amateur needing help!

Hi folks

A bit of an amateur here looking for a speedy, solid, reliable music production build to last me 5 + years.

I use Ableton, some hardware and a lot of pretty intensive plugins and effects. I'd like it to be able to take most things I could throw at it.

Some particular areas of ignorance, although they all are to be honest, are:

- CPU - gone with the processor with integrated graphics to save cash and in the hope it will still perform well - agreed?
- Cooler: no idea what I need
- Power Supply - huh?
- Motherboard - nope, no idea
- Storage - I'm currently using the HDD/SSD combo as recommended, but I'd like to move to one big, decent SSD - bad idea?
- Wireless network card - also no idea if I need this upgrading

Budget is around the £1,000.00 mark. I can push it slightly if it is really worth doing so. Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated indeed.

This is over £1k, but slightly cheaper than you suggested build. I have stepped back on the CPU and RAM to improve storage and PSU (which will run much quieter). I would wait for some other opinions, as there are some audio experts on the forum.

Very solid build and geared nicely for audio work, the only issue I can see is that fan cooler in the Define 7. An AIO is going to make the world of difference, more so if there’s layers of plugins being used in Ableton pushing the CPU and memory. Chopping the Intel M.2 down to 1TB might be a sensible move to fund a H100i.

@Sagrales82 - will you be recording anything ambiently or is it all digital work?

Thanks both.

I think I'd prefer to stick with 32gb ram but could be unnecessary and presumably able to update later if I need it.

I will be using mics and guitars occasionally. The storage options I find a bit confusing. It says "1st m2 drive" twice in the suggested build.

If anyone can explain why to go a certain way with storage that would be really helpful...

Hi folks, nearly there with this build but need advice on a cooler please for 5600G or 5700G.

@AgentCooper recommended the H100i but it's at the higher end - could I get good performance out of one of the mid-rangers in the £40 to £60 mark, or should I stump up the extra £50 as it's worth it?

I don’t personally know enough about the PCS Frostflow coolers to be able to make recommendations, I’ve heard they’re more at the budget end of the AIO scale and are likely to be a little noisier. It’s a shame the CoolerMaster 240 disappeared from the configurator, that would’ve been a nice middle ground.

I think that given you’re likely to be recording using mics at times, the H100i is worth the extra. It uses magnetic levitation fans that are very quiet and it’s much less likely to bleed into any recordings.
