it’s also worth looking at who is the actual panel manufacturer before getting sucked in to brand hyping.

for example AUO make panels for lots of companies including Samsung, Acer, ASUS, even the odd LG.

below is the monitor I am debating on at moment, which manufacturer though lol.

In a previous job (as of 3 months ago) and pre COVID, I would spend time in Taiwan, Korea and China visiting the likes of Samsung, AUO, LG, Innolux.

The main manufacturers (Samsung being the biggest ‘offender’) will sell TV’s with another manufacturers panel fitted.

It's no secret that TV manufacturers use outsourced panels in their TVs. It's called a lottery because you don't really know what panel you'll get when purchasing your TV.

why pay more for a given brand if a cheaper one has the same stuff fitted?

yes AD boards, Display boards, firmware and cooling do come in to play but it’s really worth doing your research and avoid the hype.

That’s pretty damning.

very niche and almost more bragging rights than a decent screen.

I have a personal avoidance of curved panels, as I spent a big chunk of 2017 reviewing suppliers for an industrial spec curved display.

the fallout in production and in use is far higher than flat panels.

curve screens are a bit like 3D a passing fashion (hopefully).

Very nice, but pricey.... I'm sure it will look incredible though.

It is that.... i think for someone to have one of these monitors money has to be no object.. The specs imo could be better for the price you are paying but we all know alienware are for their looks just like apple :-D

It’s not so much that money has no object, it’s about how relative it is and what an individual gets out of it.

for some spending £30k on a car is no issues, for others spending £80k is no issue.

I have no problem spending say £2k on a monitor, however it needs to say why it’s worth £2k over other monitors.

why would I spend that much?

working from home and game playing means in excess of 8 hours using it.

multiply that out by 12 months etc.

For me buying monitors it’s looking at the full product and what my needs are.

who makes the panel, who else uses this panel.
what connections, 2.1 HDMI for example, how many connections, can I run laptop and pc on seperate connections.
how much can it be adjusted.
then it’s size, refresh rate, panel type (VA, IPS), 4K 1440p etc

i tend to list these out and see what panels meet each requirement.

cost only comes in to it if there are two close contenders.
