Mechanical vs Membrane between 2 laptops.

Hi

First-time poster here.

I want to purchase a gaming laptop but I am not sure which keyboard will last longer between the 2.

I am deciding between the Recoil III GTX and the Proteus VII. The recoil uses Mechanical and the Proteus uses membrane.

My previous gaming laptop died and before dying the keyboard was also failing on it. I have had this laptop for 2 years. I primarily want to choose a keyboard that will last as long as possible.

After speaking with Customer service, the person I spoke too advised the membrane would last longer as he has the first-hand experience that people have returned their mechanical keyboards with issues and this does not happen as much with membranes. However, this goes against research online with the general consensus of mechanical lasting much longer than membrane.

My question is what would you guys recommend and could it be the case of Pc specialist keyboards where the membrane is better than mechanical? Or could it be the case for the laptops membrane is better?

i have had my laptop just over a month, the Proteus VII with no issues, its amazing so far the fans can be a little loud but i think thats the case with most gaming laptops these days tbh. One vote for Membrane.

The Recoil actually has a faux mechanical switch, so it's not an actual mechanical switch, there are very few laptops that do have a mechanical switch.

The recoil is quite a new technology and is very loud.

Any laptop keyboard is going to be more prone to failure than a desktop keyboard counterpart.

Personally, I'd go for the Proteus for keyboard.

The other thing to mention is that it's very easy to replace a laptop keyboard if anything goes wrong, you literally just slot one out and replace it, and PCS don't charge very much for replacement ones.

Just to add, to show the quality of the PCS laptop kebyoards, my laptop has normal membrane keys, it's used every single day and has been since the day I bought it in early 2014, and there is very little wear and tear. Obviously it varies per chassis, this is a Clevo chassis. Most of the blemish you see is just dirt build up on the keys cos I'm not very good at cleaning it, but it would all come off with a good wipe.

Ah you sexy Vortex 3. I've got one of those bad boys sitting on my lap right now. Reinstalled windows last week and my god it runs well still.

Mine's actually the Vortex IV, but same beast, think the 4 was just a GPU refresh to the 800 series which were a very incremental power saving range and not much more than that.

That's the thing... I still game on mine! Admittedly mainly remasters like the masterchief collection and the Bioshock remasters, but they play perfectly well. It's an awesome chassis, I've never ever had any kind of issue with it, still use it daily and don't see it expiring any time soon **fingers crossed**

Mine plays Witcher 3 better than the switch so still happy with that. Not sure how well it would cope with RDR2 though.

It's worth mentioning that a few of the laptop keyboards we have sold over the years and some current ones are not so easily replaced but most are.
