Maxed 1080p gaming PC Spec

I'm looking for a new gaming PC and it's been quite a while since I last looked at specs, so could use some advice to avoid later regret.

Budget is £1200 ish. Main requirements:
  1. 1) Maxed 1080p for games, to work with my current monitor (a really old Asus VG236). That runs up to 120Hz but only via dual link DVI so assume I am going to need a converter for DP.
2) Components capable of supporting a new 1440 GPU late next year, with a new monitor to match. I have no idea which card yet, as a lot can happen to supply/prices in the meantime, but ideally I don't want to have to replace anything else. Eg PSU.

3) Not interested in overclocking - I don't have the time, patience, knowledge to do anything except press the on button. Might mean a better CPU is sensible, in which case the new 5xxx CPUs may be a good fit.

4) Quiet as possible.

Point 1 above may be completely moot if bargains appear during Amazon/Black Friday for a new 27 inch 1440p monitor. In this case, I'm likely to be running a mix of 1080p and 1440p for games, accepting lower settings for the latter.

All of this led me to the spec below.

The only thing I would highlight is the CPU: 3600 seemed a natural pick but the newer CPUs are tempting. I'm not in the habit of upgrading often (my last PC may as well have had the case welded shut) so a better CPU may give more longevity. Am I right in thinking the closest to a 3600 is the 5600X? And is that likely to need a better cooler?

I've trimmed the text below a tad to remove the fluff. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

If you aren't in a rush, then I would hold out to see about the new CPUs....not sure how cooling is going to be....the fans on the current 3600 series are excellent so it may be that the fans on the equivalent chips will also be good enough.

As to the rest of the spec, you would be good for a 1440p GPU (the upcoming 3070, maybe 3060Ti), maybe up the PSU to 850w to give extra headroom in case you decided to go for a card that can power 4k or 1440p Superwide etc.

Hard Drive: The Samsung QVO 1TB SSD I would change to the Seagate Barracuda one (just above it) as it is £16 cheaper for pretty much the same speeds.

Other than that, it will be an excellent queit system
On the 5000 series, it’s only the 5600x that comes with a fan.

Really? Was expecting them all to come with a fan like the current AMD line-up, even though anything above the 3600 level needs better. Interesting...maybe they couldn't manage good enough fans
On the 3000 series, up to the 3800x were all 65W parts, on the 5000 series, it's only the 5600x that is 65W, the rest are 105W.

Thanks for the feedback. A bigger PSU is a good idea as i honestly have no clue what GPU I would eventually go for. 1440p super wide is extremely tempting for sure.

Re the Seagate drive, yes that was my original pick but was showing as out of stock. So was the 3600...and the 1660 Super...and then all of them back in stock again....!

On which point, I'd be happy to wait to see how the new AMD CPU's turn out but I suspect some purchase decisions are going to be driven by availability. Crossing my fingers that supply of new AMD CPUs is better than new Nvidia GPUs.

Amazon deals are now out and there are a couple of 27 inch 2560x1440 monitors I've been looking at; a Samsung LC27G73TQSUXEN running at 240Hz and an Acer Predator XB271HU.

Rant warning...
The cynic in me thinks these product names are almost deliberately confusing; Amazon's listing for the Samsung calls it the Samsung Odyssey LC27G73TQSUXEN 27" G75 . So is that a G75 or a G73? And how is it different from the Samsung Odyssey LC27G75TQSUXEN ? On Samsung's website, the latter looks to my eyes to be exactly the same spec, differing only in the digit 5 in the product name and is more expensive. And out of stock. Plus, the G73 (or G75...who knows) is priced exactly the same as the deal on Amazon. I'm probably missing something obvious to everyone else but after all that I think I need to go and lie down for a bit...

Anyhoo...what card would I need to to drive those resolutions? Would I need to pair it with a better CPU than a 3600/5600X?
