Loud Squeaky Noise From New Build (not coil whine I think)

Hi all and thanks in advance for any help.

I recently received my build from PCS after waiting 92 working days for the 3080 in it.

I think everything's mostly okay as I can max out most games in 4k except for RD2 but maybe that's to be expected. I haven't seen the GPU temp go over 80C yet and when idle it sits around 30-40C.

My issue is that the system is very noisy. I don't mind the deep rumble of the fans, which is a fairly satisfying non-intrusive sound. However, there's also a loud, squeaky, high pitched sound which accompanies it.

I'm not really sure which component it's coming from but it is a continuous sound when under heavy load and also comes on when my desktop wallpaper changes, for example. This makes me think that it's probably the GPU? I received a Zotac Holo AMP if that helps.

Having listened to some videos online I don't think it's coil whine since it doesn't sound all that similar to the videos (it seems to oscillate and is kind of like a cricket) and it can be heard over all the fans, my speakers, and from another room (with doors open of course). Also when I put my ear right up to the GPU I think I can also hear some coil whine but it's so much quieter than this sound.

Additionally, when I booted the system for the first time there was one angry beep from some component but I haven't heard it since then. Again, maybe that's normal? iCue also crashed the first time and had no idea what my components were until a restart which finally gave me the option to update it and now that's all fine. This is probably unrelated but I figured I'd add as much info as I can for all the pros out there.

I'm not sure how best to proceed or if anyone recognises this sound. In general I'm fairly sensitive to high pitched sounds (iphone chargers, the backs of smart tvs, cat/fox deterrents, and even my razer keyboard), however from a recording my less sensitive boyfriend can also hear it. I can share the recording if that would help?

Sharing a recording would be helpful I think!

You must have young ears if you can still hear all those high frequency noises! Good on you! However, calling your boyfriend 'less sensitive' in public could get you into trouble.... :D

Single beep on start up is fine, its just the system checking itself as it boots up.

Just to check, you dont have tinitus and the noise def stops when the computer is off? @ubuysa gave a tiop about using a bit of wooden doweling to listen to specific parts like individual fans, try and figure out whats making it?

I often can hear a high pitched whine from various electronics... TV's and similar, but I also have mild tinitus lol so never know if its me on the machine lol

The noise could be from pretty much any part: PSU, CPU cooler, PC case fans, GPU. Try to find the loudest area to see a possible source of noise and make a video. Squeaky noise may be interpreted differently by you or me so video would be the most helpful. For me squeaky is cats while someone else squeaky is door, whilst @NoddyPilot may not hear anything suspicious in that occasion 😇

Speak up @Citrus_9 will you?

Exactly right though - one persons cat is another persons door. (What a weird analogy but it works!!) so a recording would be best for the gurus here to give some guidance....

Thanks all, will post a recording in a second. The only narrowing down of the sound I can tell is that it's coming from the back of the case but most of the components are at the back so that doesn't really help!

Funny you should mention tinnitus, my un-sensitive boyfriend (it's fine he can take it, he's less sensitive after all :D) has permanent tinnitus but I only get it very rarely. Most electronics do sound like tinnitus though! But not this sound. Okay let me grab that recording...

My god, getting videos from an iphone onto windows is such a nightmare. First it couldn't find the device, then the device was 'unreachable' at transfer, then windows can't uncompress the bloody format. Right, bare with me, I'm getting there.

My usual thing is just to email them to myself. Less painful than all the head scratching I end up doing trying some other method.....

Haha thanks, I managed to transfer them across but now it seems that the 'create a channel' button/url on youtube is broken so I will have to try again tomorrow. I can't upload videos directly here I think.

And you do realise you will go to loads of effort and finally upload it and then we will all say "Nah, I've no idea what that is...." and Citrus_9 and I will alternately say it's a cat or a door...?
