Looking for advice re this spec

Getting closer, you could just use the link I gave you to save you hassle though haha. You want the H115i Capellix, not sure if it's out of stock.

Notice that I actually put 2 M2 drives in the spec. One would be for the OS (500GB As described) the second would be for extremely fast storage (games, cache etc).
Doh! Cooler altered - thank you.

Re a second M2 drive - I have an external 2TB SanDisk Extreme Pro which contains my data. PCPro magazine recently reviewed this and found that it acheived a read speed of 1,861MB/SEC and read speed of 1,842 MB/SEC, as long as it is connected to a 20Gbits/sec USB 3.2 gen 2x2 port - I have ordered an expansion card to add such a port via a PCIe 4x motherboard slot.

Up to yourself but USB ain't gonna be a patch on M2. I would be curious to see the sustained read/write of the USB drive and I would never have USB as cache for Photoshop etc.

Good point about caches for PS and PR/AE. I have placed my order but may nip in and pop in a second M2 for this very purpose. Thank you for doing my thinking for me :)

Sorry to resurrect this thread. I have just read on another thread a recommendation re the Lian Li lancool 215 gaming case. It is about the same price as the Corsair 4000D that I have ordered. It is a little taller, but importantly, it is 1.5cm narrower, which could be significant for me, in terms of options for placement. Would it still be a good choice, for my components? (Specs of current order below)

Thank you.

Hi,

Below is the spec for my PC that is in pre-production (it is not showing that I have changed the M2 drives to a 500Gb Samsung 980 in the first slot and a 1Tb Samsung 980 in the second). However, I have heard good things recently about the Lian Li Lancool 215 and have changed to that. Is that sensible or would the Corsair 4000D be better suited? The slightly narrower Lian Li would better fit the space I plan to place it in.

Thank you.

Re: cases. Broadly speaking the 215 outperforms the 4000D on CPU temperatures with air cooling due to more/larger fans, but since you've got an AIO that's not very relevant. On GPU temperatures, there is nothing between them. On acoustics, the 4000D has a small advantage due to less/smaller fans. I'd say overall the 215 wins but it's really marginal.

I have a 4000D Airflow and rate the case highly. It does have compromises, however. If you want the AIO top mounted this will force you to use low profile RAM (which you've selected so no current issues). If you want higher profile RAM, the AIO will need to be front mounted and that will impinge on the space for some GPUs (again with your current 3060 you'll be fine).

The 215 wasn't available when I selected my components. If it had been I might have gone for the 215, though I think the 4000D still looks nicer (but that shouldn't matter).

Hi,
Another question. (Boy, these long build times give you too much time to think and to add on stuff!).
I understand that the M2 drives give very fast boot up times. Would adding a mechanical disc or SSD for storage (not having any programs on them) slow down the boot up time?

Having an additional drive won't hurt the speed of the first one at all. Some motherboards don't play well with lots of SATA drives and two M.2 drives, but the Strix X570 will be just fine.

Thank you.
I had wondered if the time it took to spin up on booting might delay things? But I guess it doesn't (as long as it is not before the M2 system disk in the bios boot order settings)?

I don't think it will spin up when booting. Mine doesn't. It only spins up when it's in use and there should be no reason to use it when booting.

I note that the generic 3060 is now greyed out in the configurator. My build is still in pre-production, on day 19. Should I change my build graphics card or should I wait and see if PC Specialist contact me? Thank you.

Give them a call and ask or use the webchat. It's not something we can advise on, we don't know how they allocate stock.

I will chat with them at 9am today. If I do need to choose a different card which should I choose? Is the 8Gb AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT similar? I will not be playing any games at all. My most demanding use will be Adobe products - Premiere, After Effects, Lightroom and Photoshop.

3060 would definitely be my choice. It has the additional RAM that these softwares can make good use of. There's not much point in over-shooting the spec for them though and I wouldn't touch anything but Nvidia for them either.
Thank you. I have just had a chat - the pleasing reply was "We should have more than sufficient stock to cover your order. "
