As Martin has pointed out with the linked threads (that I'd recommend a read of!) we currently highly recommend AMD builds for 99% of builds. Intel currently has many issues causing it to lag behind AMD such as security issues that they've known about for quite a while, lack of Gen 4 NVME M.2 support and hotter running CPU's requiring more beefy cooling solutions, just to name a few.

Also before we give any advice we'll need some basic info. 1) What's your budget/ max you're willing to spend? 2) What will it be used for? If it's gaming, what games would you like to play? if it's for work, are there any specialist programs you need to run? 3) What monitor is it hooked up to? (either make and model or resolution AND refresh rate) That 3080 will be pointless if it's being hooked up to a 1080p 60hz display. Once we have that info we can start to suggest changes/ builds for you!

This system should be a beast for what you plan to do with it.

For Ryzen, the best gaming chip around is the Ryzen 7 5800X.
For 1440p monitors we generally recommend the 60TI or 70 if the budget fits, as yours is 240hz, I'm unsure if it'll need another step up as the 3080 is generally recommended for 4K displays or the Samsung G9 (if someone that might know would be able to confirm or deny that would be great).
Unless you plan to stream or play MSFS, 16GB should be plenty of RAM to run the majority of games. If you find it's not enough down the road, RAM is very easy to install.
I was a little confused by your Storage solution, especially the use of a 8TB hard drive, if you're able to explain why that'd be great. I've changed this for a 500GB Gen 4 M.2 for blistering quick load times into Windows, a 2TB Gen 3 drive for all of your games which should be tonnes, then 2TB for all your general files
The RMx 850 should be plenty to power this system
For the Ryzen 7, you'll want improved cooling so I've gone for the Corsair H100i RGB
The wireless card will give you 5.0Ghz bandwith as well as Bluetooth
I'm unsure if you selected it but the Bulldog Anti-Virus has been known to cause issues
I've also added the Silver warranty as it's well worth the £5

Case wise, your original choice would not be able to keep up with cooling the comonents inside. I've changed to the 465X as it's a fantastic case for cooling, looks great and comes with 3 fans in the price. If you're looking for a more subtle look I'd recommend the Corsair 4000D or the Fractal Meshify C with a couple of extra fans. You could also change the AIO to the H100X to remove the RGB on those fans too.

The G7 is in a bit of a weird spot. For reference, the G9 is effectively 2 of the 27 inch G7 variants stuck together into one beast of a monitor.
The 3070 is a good pairing for this display though. While you won't be maxing out the display on the majority of titles that isn't really an issue on the bulk of titles mentioned as they're single player titles. On something like COD you will be pushing past the 144fps mark if you were to crank the graphics down to play competitively, so the monitor does give the headroom for this and support VRR at those higher frames. The argument could be made for a beefier GPU, but with the current budget @JUNI0R has made the smart move in focusing on giving you a balanced build that has room for an upgraded GPU down the line.

Thanks for the insight! Very useful to know! And thanks for the kind words, I'm happy to hear it's a build you approve of!

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to put this great build together for my budget, it does look great. I have always stuck with Intel over AMD so it was good to see why I should open my eyes a little wider :)

As far as why I wanted the 8tb hard drive, I was just going by the storage I have on my existing build which has a 223 gb SSD, a 2tb hdd and a 4tb hdd, I store a lot of music and photos as well, which I neglected to mention (sorry!) and really like to keep a good selection of games available to dip in and out of like Football Manager, FIFA, Madden etc.

I have a Norton 360 licence on my existing pc which expires in May so Bulldog was not selected, but any advice on whether I should renew or change would also be welcome

No need to pay for Norton, just use Windows defender, it does a great job and is free and already built into windows
Thanks Martin, is that secure enough?

And 1 final (?) question for yourself or Junior, I may well want to play MSFS so with that in mind is it worth upping my budget to spring for the extra ram and 3080 card?

You're welcome! I'm glad we could convince you to swap. We get a lot of people going for Intel builds that are stuck in their ways and aren't nearly as easy to convince as you 😂

This makes total sense! I had a feeling it might be to do with a music collection or lots of documents. If you're comfortable doing so, you could always move the drives over from the old PC to the new PC, then transfer all the games you have on the HDD's to the 2TB SSD and hopefully compact down the music and pictures to the 4TB HDD. That would also mean you wouldn't have to sit through hours of transfer between drives. when you get your new PC. This would also save you money as you wouldn't have to re-purchase drives you already own and can utilise for free!

Alterntatively, if you did want to buy new drives for the new PC, I'd recommend against buying one large drive, but instead splitting it up into 2 smaller drives.

I have a Norton 360 licence on my existing pc which expires in May so Bulldog was not selected, but any advice on whether I should renew or change would also be welcome
As Martin has just mentioned, there realisitcally is no need to pay for Norton, as Windows Defender does a perfectly good job!

And 1 final (?) question for yourself or Junior, I may well want to play MSFS so with that in mind is it worth upping my budget to spring for the extra ram and 3080 card?
I'd definitely recommend upgrading the RAM if you plan to play MSFS. As for the 3080, I'm unsure, it's a very expensive card and the wait times are currently crazy for them- around 90-100 day working times from PCS, compared to the 3070 that's about 1-2 months. Personally I'd stick with the 3070, I'm sure you'll be blown away and happy with it's performance If that isn't the case, you could always upgrade down the line when prices normalise, but as I say, I really don't feel this will be the case.

yeah windows defender is secure, I use it on all my PC's

If you are sure that you can afford it then yeah go for it, but only yoou really know the answer to that question

I tweaked the spec that @Junior kindly built me, and got the following warnings -

"Please note that the radiator from the Corsair Hydro H100x cooler will occupy 2 x 120mm internal fan slots on the roof of your case.

Please therefore note that it may not be possible to install additional case fans and we recommend that you check the fan capacity of your chosen case (by clicking on the case image above) before proceeding."

and this is the revised spec - Question on the motherboard, I am not in to the RGB thing at all so is there a non RGB alternative i should consider (hopefully save a few pennies too?)

If you're happy with the wait time of the 3080, and happy to stretch the budget a little to accommodate it then by all means keep it in.
The 100x cooler is in a bit of a weird place, it's an old design so given you the coolermaster instead which will be ample for your uses.
An important note that a lot of people forget is that ARGB can be turned off. The TUF x570 is also the motherboard to go for with the 5800x CPU.

I would personally go with this build. Reasons being... 2 4th gen SSD’s, 6800XT has better availability, cheaper and very similar performance to the 3080, it will also allow for free-sync and SAM.

VALUED CONTRIBUTOR
I would personally go with this build. Reasons being... 2 4th gen SSD’s, 6800XT has better availability, cheaper and very similar performance to the 3080, it will also allow for free-sync and SAM.
