Its my Last Last chance to upgrade before the build slot early next week...
I use it for work/office and gaming I know the Intel i9700K out performs
the AMD 3700X on pretty much every game at the moment but the system
is about future proofing so in 2 years I can pop in say a 3950x and wont need to
buy a whole new system like I have been every 2 years. (Current system i7 8700K)

I would cancel and re-order without the OC. Overclocking an AMD is not a good choice at all. The in-built AI does a fantastic job of managing the boost clocks. You will be disappointed when you find that your PC never reaches it's boost clocks.... ever..... due to the OC. My recommendation would be to drop the OC and drop in a 3800X instead.

I also wouldn't have the 970 M2 drive over the Firecuda. That's a minor point though.

God, I totally missed the overclock! Good catch!

Already got the 970M2 pro and its £22 extra for the overclocking … I've been in the build que for 7 days now
so wont be canceling the order for £22. o_O

It's not the money... it's the performance hit.

3700X OC won't perform as well as a normal 3700X and neither will perform as well as the 3800X..... all for £13 rather than £22.

The 970 Pro isn't as good as the Firecuda, do you mean you have already purchased it separately?

It's your build though :)

During heavy workloads the 3800X clocks between 100 - 150 MHz higher than the 3700x, which amounts to a 2.5 - 4% frequency increase. This increased CPU power consumption by around 12%, which meant it ran a few degrees hotter, potentially making it a bit louder.
For this minor performance increase AMD has increased the MSRP by 21%, from $330 to $400, so the biggest percentage increase, if we ignore the TDP, comes from the price. And we believe that’s all you need to hear, you’ll get 3% more performance at best, by spending 21% more of your money.
Buying advise in short: we highly recommend avoiding the 3800X and instead grab the 3700X. If you find it necessary, upgrade the box cooler with the money saved. The Ryzen 5 3600 remains king of value bar none, and the 3900X offers more cores for productivity, gaming may not benefit as we observed in our GPU scaling benchmark.

AMD doesn’t overclock like intel. AMD have high performance cores that handle the automatic boost which is effectively an automated overclock and then lesser cores which will hover at peak clocks. When you overclock you remove the boost as you can only overclock to the weakest core, so on AMD, and especially for your uses, you’ll actually DECREASE performance, not improve it.

Listen, I'm not going to waste my time sitting arguing with out of date information.

The 3800X is around £12 more than the 3700X.

If you think for one second that overclocking a 3700X is going to increase it's performance and have it run cooler than a 3800X you're out of your mind.

You asked for opinions on the build, I've given you mine. You are clearly set in your choices and happy with them and I wish you ever favour and fortune with your build.

Factually... you're wrong though.

I spoke to PC specialist about the overclocking and expressed these concerns and they told be it would be a benefit
than the stock .... ( should I talk to them again)..?

Yes I already bought and have the 970 pro in my PC now and will be adding it to this build when i get it..

My guess is they are misinformed or misunderstand your usage. The team won't all be experts in every facet of computing. It's a little like speaking to a car sales person, they will know what they know really well but that's not who you talk to when you need some nitty gritty car advice.

It shouldn't have cost you money, the OC is £22... the 3800X is £13.... you should have got a £9 refund?

The OC is still listed in your build so I'm guessing they have charged you for the OC and the 3800X even though they aren't applying it.

was not going to argue with him about it... just wanted in done intime before the build, he said he would have to leave a note on the system build to tell them not to include the over clocking ..so I guess it might have something to do with finance arrangement and not canceling the order... on wait day 7 …
