Hello hello,
(as the text is longer than usual, if i do some mistake, all my apologies)

So, as I said somewhere else (many time i think :D ), i have to change my laptop
(did i told you that i really really want to play mass effect and i was frustrated yesterday ? :D)

Anyway, so, i would like you, if you can, check my spec'

So, my uses will be :
-Gaming (from old game to the newest one ^^)
-A little bit of coding and manipulating data for my thesis
-Maybe, from time to time, virtual machines
(I will not do VR because of handicap)

i'm sticking to DTR instead of Desktop because i don't know where i'll do my post thesis contract (europe, canada, all around the world ... :D )

I may add a monitor later (when i'll have "more" money XD)

My budget is more or less already maxed as this config cost 3800 euros with vat on the french website

I have questions :
Is the samsung 980 really better than the 970 ?
Did i miss something
Is there anything a should change ?

Thank you for your attention ;)

Kindly yours

Is the samsung 980 really better than the 970 ?
The 970 is gen 3 so capped at 3500mbs (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W)

The 980 is gen 4 and is almost double the speeds. (up to 7000MB/R, 5000MB/W)

So yeah, big difference. For gaming, won't make much of an impact, but for the OS and compiling / VM's it makes a huge impact.

The rest of the build looks solid.

DTR's are amazing imho, I'm still using mine bought in 2014 as my daily laptop, even still game on it on older remasters like Halo MC Collection and others.

So, I can "pull the trigger" with this config' ?

And thanks for the answer about the ssd ^^

By the way, thank you to split the 2 topics dear moderator, I think it's better that way to do some follow up ^^
(But my original title was funnier XD )

Yeah, it's a solid build, will be very powerful all round.

Well, as soon I can call the bank, I'll pull the trigger
Thank you @SpyderTracks for the review ;)

(Any advice to complete the build, or it's already ok ? Sorry, but as it's a big purchase, I don't want to screw it ^^". Yeah, I'm a bit a worrywart (is it the right word ?) )

Anyway, thanks again ^^

The only thing I'd mention is that the USB C dock you've ordered may not be the best for the laptop, a proper Thunderbolt one would be better as that would natively carry picture as well.

USB C is a data standard, Thunderbolt is carried OVER USB C, but is it's own connectivity standard that includes video.

That USB C one may not be what you're after, if it were me, I'd source a proper Thunderbolt one.

The laptop itself though is pretty perfect, it's a lovely build.

I'll use it as an external USB ports
I took this one because it was on the build option list.
But if you think it's better to take one outside of pcs, I'll follow your advice ;)

If your not using high end graphic's app's eg. Rendering. I would drop the 3080 and go for the 3070 as there is only about avg 15-20% at best better performance in gaming using a rtx 3080 over the rtx 3070

Edit check this review out:

But, as i read it on the forum, is it not better to get the "better" GPU for laptop ?
As we can't change it later in laptop

I mean, i know that the difference is not that big (thanks for the video by the way), but even if i can afford it, should i change it ?
And if i add an external monitor, will the gpu change not impact the performance ?

(not sur if i'm clear, sorry about that)

Perfectly clear :)
The RTX 3070 should/will be able to handle two display's running at 1080p no problems, But if you have the extra £250 or so, then yea go for the 3080 and you should still be able to play most AAA game's for the next 3+ years with no problems. I was just trying to save some money for you.

It is best to get the best GPU you can afford in a laptop as that will be the first bottleneck.

So if the price is ok with you for the 3080 then it’s worth it.

That's why, even if it cost me more, i think i'll go for the 3080

So, thank you for your advices both of you

(hem, @SpyderTracks , could you give me an answer to this, pretty please * puppy eyes * )

But you may want to add a "cooler stand" this will help the laptop last longer AS the intel 11700k love's soaking up power and more power usage equals More heat.

SOOOO ...
While i was waiting for my bank to open (they're close on monday), i just learn that PCS will have an other DTR with a 150W 3080 GPU and AMD CPU ...
So, i think i'll hold the trigger for some days (it's not as if I already waited for long time ...)

And if i'm not happy with the futur new DTR, i'll go with the spec you advice me ;)

(by the way, thanks again to all of you)

And, as my current laptop just told that he will go to retirement soon (yeah, we talk to each other - please, don't send my to asylum, i'm afraid of the joker XD) I'll pull the triger tonight with the configuration you reviewed.
And so, thank again (yeah, i thank you a lot, but you deserve it)

Hi there :)
Can you please tell me where you have read this news? Are you talking about a desktop AMD CPU in a gaming laptop?
Thanks!
