Ok, just a quick bit of history ... daughter in secondary school, given the new push for home remote working, she had a desktop, buit that is quite old. She been using my laptop, but now needs her own.

I have access to education licenses for Windows, so I dont need an OS, and get free Office365

I want to future proof it as much as possible without going silly, with a Laptop that will be good for the next 3-4 years.

Budget is upto £1000

Have I gone OTT ?

THankyou for the response ... I was always lead to believe more Ram is a good thing.
I selected the "1TB PCS 2.5" SSD, SATA 6 Gb (520MB/R, 470MB/W)" as the primary drive as I know its probably going to be used for mp3's as well as fairly parge ppt presentations and education media.

Im a little confused about the

1st Storage Drive
and the
1st M.2 SSD Drive

is there a difference ?
Do I need opne of each or can I just specify a large ssd for the 1srt storage Drive ?

Personally when it comes to laptops, I would seriously consider the extra £69 for the 2 year part warranty as well as the £19 for the 1 year dead pixel guarantee.

Sounds a lot, but one of the main things with laptops is heat and the possibility of melting / breaking the motherboard which would result in the largest expense, especially with the amount of dust that might have built up over a year if you havent cleaned it out or had it re-pasted.

Is there any reason for the 6TB external drive? is that to be included in the budget or an 'extra'?

Also, I note that this laptop doesnt state how long the battery lasts so may be best to contact and ask them, because if the intention is to take it to school (and/or college eventually) then purchasing an extra battery might be advisable - especially as this is an external removable battery. Sadly though that eats away another £55. If taking to school, consider cloud back up - through your Microsoft 365 - instead of external hard drive....or both).

This is an idea of just spending that little bit more, to get a little bit more in the machine itself - therefore keeping it in date a bit longer (and accounting for any possible gaming that your daughter might like) and allowing you to easily add a 2.5" drive later as well then if required. (This is based on only silver warranty though and a spare battery added in):

Thankyou for the input ... I double checked the order and spotted the £40 discount, so added it.(y).
The 6TB external storage was just a belt and braces thing ... Im not a fan of cloud storage, so the plan is to use the 6TB external drive as a family backup (extra to the budget) .. but easily justified

Order Placed :)
