Laptop lead times

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows what the current lead times are for laptops? My Optimus V is currently on it's 11th working day of pre-production on the normal 7-9 day build cycle. I phoned up last week to enquire if there was a part that was waiting to be delivered but was told they were just busy, and were expecting to start building by the 14th ready for dispatch early this week.

For an official response you need to contact PCS directly, the lead times are just estimates.

Hi,
My Optimus V is currently on it's 11th working day

My Optimus V is on it's 11th working day and has been awaiting dispatch since this morning:
Processed Date 04-06-2013
Pre-Production Date 04-06-2013
Build Date 13-06-2013
Test Date 17-06-2013
Awaiting Dispatch Date 18-06-2013

11 working days for pre-production is bad. I started to lose patience on 8 working days but it was built the same day.

Edit: It's been dispatched.

The lead times are an average over two months. Your order was delayed due to a part being out of stock and a large backlog.
Your order should go into building after lunch as its on the top of the pile.

Based on what?

I meant bad as in I would be annoyed, although I was annoyed at 8 days.
But still, being stuck in pre-production for 11 days is bad. If it was because of a part being out of stock then I can accept that but the poster said that he phoned PCS and was told they did have the part but moosEh just said that they never. Weird.

If you don't have the patience to wait why not buy a pre-built system or order fast track? There's every possibility PCS were extremely busy so lead times grow, and I don'think it's exactly fair that someone calls that service 'bad' just because they have no patience.

probably a mistake was made when he requested information. It really depends on how busy they are, also you need to consider that you are purchasing a customised system so different parts could be out of stock or allocated to previous orders. I had to wait around 22 working days for my desktop which was ok since I was in no rush but for my laptop I went with fast track.

The Optimus V doesn't have a pre-built option (or at least it never when I bought) and I see no point in buying fast track when it says '7-9 working days' approx as well it saying that pre-production is 'Normally < 1 week'. Don't get me wrong, I like PCS and the service. I've been lurking here since January and everyone here is friendly (well, almost) and help each other out but there are some little things that somebody could nitpick at. I shall enjoy my Laptop and the service when it arrives in a few hours today. I also plan on writing a review about the service and laptop.

If parts are out of stock or allocated then I would be fine with accepting a delay and I had no rush for my Laptop anyway. There were just a few times when I thought "why is this being delayed". Some more information during the process might have helped.

Edit: Should have put these into one post, sorry.

We have all gone through the pain and anquish of checking at least once a day to view progress. Even when it has been dispatched you wait all day by the gate in case the courier is missed and you have to wait yet another day. Even then you cannot relax until you know it all works as it is supposed to.

However, after a week you think it wasn't so bad and after a month it is but a distant memory. It is worth the wait, believe me.

Brilliant post.
I can safely say mine has arrived and appears to be working correctly. I'll fully check everything and get it up and running after work.

It's gone to 'In building' now. I hope I didn't come accross as complaining or moaning at all, I certainly didn't intend to, and fully understand that there can be part shortages etc, but I'm sure every one here can appreciate that once you've ordered the shiny new toy, you want it as soon as possible.

Apologies for my being arsey earlier, it was a bad day at work, I'm a bit under the weather and I've had about 9 hours sleep the past three nights. No excuse but again, apologies.

I still think that an eight day turnaround for a custom built laptop isn't 'bad' though. I can understand people being anxious when their machine doesn't move anywhere (mine was stuck in QC for nearly eight days) but we've just got to realise that PCS are obviously busy, nobody's 100% perfect and things happen. I've never been disappointed by PCS over all three PCs I've bought from them and it just narks me a little when their service is called bad for a timeline I personally think is actually pretty good.

I've been a bit too impatient waiting for it. Don't we all get excited when we have a new 'toy' coming? Yeah, eight days for a custom built laptop is good and I can understand that PCS are busy and popular.

I'm currently getting the drivers installed onto Windows 8 but I took some screenshots before I left and some more when I got back. I'll post some of them here but I'll be writing up a review in a few days from when I hit the purchase button and beyond.

Sorry for the confusion, as far as I can see there was no part out of stock. I miss read the sheets when I went to check on yours. IT WAS just a delay.

And all our lead times are estimates, never guarantees.
