I contacted PC Specialist through email asking about updating the BIOS. They have said that they will be uploading a new version of the BIOS file soon with new instructions. Hopefully these will actually be useful this time....

Does the BIOS update have a name I can use when contacting PC Specialist?
I'm considering buying a Lafite II and I'll be contacting PCS to see if all new orders will have the new BIOS, seeing as some of you are reporting it appears to 'fix' any fan issues.

Annoyingly, the fan is sometimes still stop-starty. I think, overall, it has got a little better, but it still likes to get going and then stop sometimes. It was perfect after the update, but seems to have regressed (is that even possible?). Debating as to whether I correctly installed the BIOS.
Has anybody had any luck getting theirs updated?

No joy in getting it updated. PCS said they were going to upload a new BIOS file with updated instructions, but they have not yet done it. I've given up hope at this point.

I had exactly the same email conversation with support. We will be uploading a new bios with installation instructions in "a few days" - that was 12 days ago........
I have just chased them via email again.

I followed the instructions, but as far as I can see the BIOS version has not changed.
Just checked, it was updated once again yesterday, I'm about to try it. Will report back. Original version of BIOS is '5.11' according to CPU-Z, though at POST it's something else.
UPDATE: Update didn't work for me. Would appreciate a second opinion though just to check it's not just me.

Didn't work yet again. Hahaha, this is hilarious!
It's possible that I somehow botched my update mechanism from trying the update prior to attempting this new update, that time the Win-EC.bat appeared to run correctly (programming bios, success etc). However, this time Win-EC.bat merely appeared for a second with no discernible completion though on rebooting it did hang until I hard reset it (which had me worried hehe).
If someone else could try and report back that would be good.

I have tried the latest version that has been uploaded and it has not worked. It is honestly a joke at this stage.

This is what I've noticed thus far from updating:
I think an extra menu detailing NVMe info, my USB mouse seems much more responsive (right off the bat), POST display has increased in size
To all those wishing to update from the 21-03-2016 BIOS and to PCSpecialist so they can address the issue.
Instructions:
1. Download, extract
2. Go to 'win' folder
3. Run 'WIN-EC.bat' (as admin for good measure)
4. The laptop will turn off. Power back on after 30 seconds
5. Right-click Win-BIOS.bat, click 'Edit', replace the text with 'afuwin ..\105_931P.bin /b /p /n' (no quotations)
NB: Alternatively, you can delete the furthermost 'x64' from the batch file's text 'afuwinx64', it's the same thing.
6. Save
7. Run 'Win-BIOS.bat'
8. After the window disappears, reboot.

Have you noticed any improvements to the fan?
It appears to ramp up and down in proportion to prolonged system load, before it was much more sporadic.
Setting Minimum Processor State at 5% (as opposed to 100% as is default in the High Performance power plan) makes it much less liable to turn on with load.
I'm using the Control Center utility provided in the download section to monitor the fan's current status (temperature, speed/stopped), and you have some primitive control over the fan from there. Using the 'Quiet' mode, and in the chosen power-plan using 5% Min Processor State and Passive for Cooling Policy you can effectively stop the fan under light loads, but it does turn on with more demanding tasks.
The fan's annoyance thus might vary depending on the processor, though to what end I'm not sure.
Given the ability to change the fan's speed from this utility and the leeway in temperature (light-load at around 50-55C with the max allowable temp 100C) suggests that it might be possible for someone to re-release this control center with a higher threshold in order to activate the fan, though I doubt they will.
So, in short, it's improved in my experience so far.

Hi, i followed those instructions, but my bios doesnt seem to have updated. when i run the win-bios.bat file (after making your suggested alteration) the black window opens, but a split second before it closes, the line "error: Secure Flash Rom Verify Fail" is shown. any ideas anyone??

Sounds like you need to disable Secure Boot in BIOS (F2 when you boot).

thanks. i have now disabled secure boot, but the same error appears. :-(
