Just ordered a gaming desktop - is there anything I should change?

Hi, I've just ordered the below spec. The computer will be used for gaming; the type of games I play are Microsoft Flight Simulator, Sims 4, modded Skyrim and Cities: Skylines. I wanted a white unit that is relatively compact and can sit on my desk.

This spec costs £2,082 inc. VAT, and I can spend £2-300 more if there's anything that would make a difference. Would switching the motherboard to the Gigabyte X670E be worth it? Appreciate the extra budget isn't a lot and it isn't a problem if there's nothing to tweak, I will just put the money towards a monitor as I need one anyway - if anyone can suggest what I should be looking for in a monitor for this build that would be great! I would have bought a monitor at the same time but I'd like a white one and I couldn't see one on PCS.

Thanks!

Hello, so your budget would be approximately £2400, correct?

I'd make a few tweaks to your initial build.
I'll leave the monitor suggestions to others; the 7900GRE does well in QHD/1440p rasterization, but, like all Radeon cards, struggles with Ray Tracing and other NVIDIA technologies.

Case
CORSAIR iCUE 5000X RGB MID TOWER ATX CASE - WHITE - Better quality than the unknown PCS one.
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5)
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI (AM5, DDR5, PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 6E) - Overkill MB but it's white and ASUS tend to have better support than Gigabyte.
Memory (RAM)

32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB) KIT - WHITE
Graphics Card
16GB SAPPHIRE PURE RADEON™ RX 7900 GRE - WHITE - HDMI, DP - DX® 12
Graphics Card Support Bracket
NONE (BRACKET INCLUDED AS STANDARD ON 4070 Ti / RX 7700 XT AND ABOVE)

1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB SOLIDIGM P41+ GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 4125MB/sR, 3325MB/sW)
Power Supply
CORSAIR 1200W RMx SHIFT SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET - Better PSU, ATX 3.1, plenty room for future upgrades.
Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR ICUE LINK H100i RGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER - WHITE - 240mm AIO, better aesthetic, less cables with Link.
Thermal Paste

STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Extra Case Fans
3 x Corsair ICUE LINK QX120 RGB PWM Fan + Controller Kit - WHITE - Pure aesthetics, you can remove to save around £70.
Sound Card

ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT
USB/Thunderbolt Options

Thank you for this! Just so I'm clear, are the extra fans completely optional or will I need some, just not necessarily the Corsair ones? I think I'll get them anyway; I've remembered I have a Windows key I can transfer so I don't mind putting that saving towards aesthetics, I just want to make sure I understand.

Edited to add: Would there be an issue if I went for 4000D or 4000X (probably D for better airflow, though the X looks lovely) instead of the 5000 case? Just trying to keep the height as low as possible, but not if it will make things worse.

Yes, if you already have an OS license associated with your Microsoft account, you can easily transfer it to the new PC.

Aside from size (and pre-installed fans), the Corsair 4000 and 5000 cases are virtually identical. You can select whatever is appropriate for your needs.

Extra fans are useful, but they must be properly adjusted. Corsair QX is a better choice because it is compatible with Link technology and does not require cables connection to function.

Too many fans will actually reduce airflow and create deadspots, not improve it. The case design is what dictates airflow, a good case will come with the necessary fans required accounting for an AIO / closed loop to provide the rest.

Sorry, just one more question! @SpyderTracks I saw in another thread you recommended the AOC Q27G3XMN monitor. Would it be a decent option for my build, shown in Ekans' post above? I've bought it this morning but can cancel if it's not - it suits my budget though which is good!

Yes, would be a good fit for your gpu and it’s a fantastic monitor, there really isn’t anything that equals it under about double the price.

would absolutely recommend it
