Joining the Odyssey G9 Club

As the title says, I ask for your help for building a high quality long lasting PC to run smooth with that monitor.
I didn't purchased it yet, as I live in Italy the only place I see Samsung G9 available in on Amazon, i kindly ask someone who knows a little about them is to help me pick one, there are different versions, panels, there's the Neo version, I really don't want to overspend if I don't need to.
I currently have a BenQ EX2780Q Monitor (bought it for an Xbox one X) witch will serve me as a second monitor.

I only had laptops for the last 15 years or so, so I know next to nothing in PC building, that's why I won't bother you with a start. My budget is around 3000 euro for the build, i can stretch it to 3500 if it's necessary.

Now i have a G5 5587 DELL laptop witch I use intensely for FM and Cities Skylines, I would love it immensely to play one with huge database and the other one with moods, assets and more than 3 fps on bigger cities.
I also have an Oculus Quest 2 witch got me very intrigued about VR and getting a PC with some horse power, investing in a PC with a rtx 3080 rather than choosing easiest way, go for the commodity and mobility of a decent gaming laptop.
I don't know what to expect in VR but I'll give flying and driving sims a chance, along with the other AAA titles. Are the Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog and the Logitech G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel decent enough for a entry-level gaming experience?

Thank you in advance for taking the time helping a noob picking the right monitor, PC and accessories.
Mihail.

Is it the Neo you want? The Neo is the new version with Nano LED and far superior backlighting zones, but it's almost double the cost of the normal G9. What's your budget for the monitor? I can't speak highly enough of the G9, I have the latest model of the original version which corrected some lingering hardware issues. It has completely changed my experience in games, I'm really not overselling it here, I get a physical feeling in games, it feels like my mind gets absorbed into the game. The curve on it is so effective that it takes up all your peripheral view, so you feel as though it's your entire natural viewing angle taken up in the game. It's a surreal experience, I absolutely love it.

The Neo takes it to new depths with far better blacks, far better individual lighting zones, and generally smoother performance. It's a beast of a monitor.

We can definitely get you on your way.

Thanks so much, @SpiderTracks, for your fast reply, you were one of the regular posters who got me looking into the G9, and the reviews that I read helped a lot. The budget for the monitor is around 1700 euro.
About the build, won't a i7 be more future-proof and better in at least FM? I Know I'm already stretching the budget but I'll stretch it even more if it's worth it.

Ooo, I'm not sure what the price of the Neo is over in Italy. It may be just over that. If you can find a good stockist with an ex display model or open box item on amazon warehouse, then you'd very likely be able to get one in budget. I would definitely try for the Neo if you can, it's very very good. The original has its drawbacks that the Neo fixes but it's such a great experience it doesnt make it bad in anyway.

The latest G9 Neo model I believe is LS49AG950NUXXU

The latest G9 original model is LC49G95TSSUXEN - also referred to as the G95T

I was pushing for the i7 and agree it's worth it especially for VR games.

Just additionally, make sure you buy the monitor from a place with a good returns policy, Samsungs quality control is not that great, and there are units out there with dead pixels etc, so you need to be prepared to have to return it to get a working replacement. Amazon is usually the best for returns universally, but there may be other places you prefer in Italy.

I was lucky, my monitor has been great, no issues out of the box at all. And the model number for the original I posted has a lower power requirement of 50w vs the older versions 100w. That makes a big difference. Some users with the older model complained of arching at the power supply, mine doesn't have that. I though it did initially, but think it was just the plastic shell settling into place once it was upright, because that's no longer there.

Damn damn fine monitors, just damn fine!

I'll push for the i7 than even if I'll have to wait for the gaming accessories a little more time.
In Italy I found the G9 only on Amazon. The 2021 version I'm looking at is called Samsung Monitor Gaming Odyssey G9 (C49G93), LC49G93TSSRXEN and costs 1679 euro. The 2020 version costs 1499 and it's model number is ‎LC49G93TSSUXEN, and the Samsung Monitor Gaming Odyssey Neo G9 (S49AG952), ‎LS49AG952NUXEN is 2100. Should I push for the Neo G9 even if my dog will have to share his food with me? He's a little overweight anyway. :)

Lols, yeah, I definitely would, it's a big improvement, it's the uber experience. The benfits it brings to both HDR and blacks are pretty large, it's not a subtle difference.

Waited about 4 years with a 1050 ti laptop graphic card to go VR, and, man, was a long wait. BTW, what i7 is recommended for gaming? I'm ready to place the order.

Either the 12700k or kf, the kf is the same chip just without on board graphics. Personally, it's handy having on board graphics should any GPU troubleshooting be required at any time, if the price difference isn't rediculous, it's worth getting the k.

Thank your very much for your time, I'll place the order for the pc tonight, and for the monitor as soon as the PC arrives in Rome. Pics will follow.
Just one more question, can I use CORSAIR ICUE 5000X RGB MID TOWER GAMING CASE for this build? I like a little light, but in the same time is nothing too flashy.

Yeah, absolutely, it's a great case.

Just for clarity, the Odyssey is not the new one, the NEO is the new one :)

The original G9 is a beast of a display, the neo is the next level, essentially providing an actual HDR experience (HDR on the original G9 is great, but not when you compare it to the neo).

I have received the monitor on the 31'th on March, the PC arrived today in Rome and was delivered straight to my house by FedEx, even though it was due to arrive on Monday. Installed the monitor, opened the case of the computer, everything looked great.

But when I unscrewed the right side panel to remove all the packaging it exploded into hundreds of pieces. What now!?!

Contact PCS and they'll ship you a replacement.

You can do an RMA through your online account, just do the case

Thank you, mate, very helpful, I had no idea what to do next. What do you think, they will send me just the panel or all the case?
The PC has not been connected to power yet, didn't even tried it, if I'll make sure there are no pieces of glass, in theory should work just fine. Should I dare to start it tonight for the first time, is it safe from PCS's point of view, or I better wait for their answer.
One more thing, you advised me to check with a close eye the monitor for dead pixels and imperfections, it was damn expensive, but without the PC I don't have enough horse power in my old laptop to power this monster, If PCS asks me to return my PC without starting it, I can't try the monitor and if I get lucky with it as I got lucky with the PC, considering the time it takes for the computer to fly from Italy to England and back, I won't have time to return it to Amazon no questions asked if something is wrong with the monitor. Now I'm in a pickle, right? :)

I think when you create the RMA just on a single component you can then add a comment to it, just post a link to this thread and they'll see the photos, put a note to say it's just the side panel that's shattered, and they'll just ship a replacement panel to you, you won't have to send anything back.

It's unfortunately quite common with these glass panels, but you're entirely covered under warranty and PCS will put it right.

I would as you say, just make sure there aren't any glass particles inside the case. If you use a hoover, make sure the PC is plugged into the wall socket, but powered off at the PSU, that way it's grounded so any static should be discharged. Do be careful if using a hoover though as they can make fans spin faster than they ought to. Use a small nozzle and just be quite cautious.

I would say it's fine to use it in the meantime. Just have a look over it and make sure there are no dents in the case or something, make sure everything else is ok before starting it. I'm sure it's fine, unfortunately these side panels are quite delicate in international shipping when it's all built, when it's being shipped as separate panels it's a bit easier.

One more thing, you advised me to check with a close eye the monitor for dead pixels and imperfections, it was damn expensive, but without the PC I don't have enough horse power in my old laptop to power this monster
Yes, absolutely. I would use the new computer once you're happy it's ok, then you can run a dead pixel checker here:

That should show up any defects. Hopefully you'll be fine, but it's worth doing as a first thing with any new monitor.
If PCS asks me to return my PC without starting it, I can't try the monitor and if I get lucky with it as I got lucky with the PC, considering the time it takes for the computer to fly from Italy to England and back, I won't have time to return it to Amazon no questions asked if something is wrong with the monitor. PCS won't ask you to send back the computer unless you find something else significant wrong with it. But normally you can just RMA individual components rather than having to send the whole thing back.

Fingers crossed though, the rest of the PC is fine.
