Any idea what languages you will be covering?

Think the other thing to consider is getting a degree doesnt always guarantee you a job. Graduate starting wages seem to be getting worse on average. Sometimes experience and starting somewhere from the ground up seems a lot more logical than doing 3-4 years in a degree and ending up with debt and a worse wage than if you got a job after school/college! :( Apprentiships seem awesome nowadays!

I do agree, however it tends to be because there are so many pointless degrees out there and far too many people going, this is why the degree is worth less these days. To make a degree worthwhile it really needs to be in a specialist field, for example aeronautical engineering, physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer sceiince (the big subjects basically)

Java seems to be the norm for most courses (or if your lucky a bit of smalltalk) : )

Yeah Java is a great language to start with tbh, keeps it simple yet still very powerful language. Id say that and C# are two of the best languages to start with.

I do think there should be more standard C incorporated in courses though, learnign about memory management I think is a massive bonus, and pointers too. (as much as I hate them)

Do you need any type of IT qualifications to get a job with PCs when it comes to hardware? I'm highly qualified in building, qualificed to drive a ton of different construction vehicles but, I'm not using any of it, I have no interest in it what so ever, and I also buggered my back in during the period I got all the qualifications, (even got a lumber jack qualification :p) but as I said, got no interest in it what so ever, whilst I love to have a fiddle inside PC's, I'll admit I've not done much, I've always been too scared to mess with the CPU and the thermal pastes etc, because I've watched my older brother and his mates build PC's when I was younger, and the cooling paste always worried me a bit. all I know is, it interests me and I'd love to be the bloke who just stands and builds PC's. Guess it'd be seriously hard to get such a job though, it'd be custome PC's like PCS makes that'd be interesting, not working at like Dell and standing and making the same PC day in and day out like a factory worker.

you dont need qualifications, however experience is always a plus. If you can, get ur hands on an old pc, pentium 2 or sumit, figure out all the parts, how they work, read up on how they interact with eachother and just apply to loads of places. As long as you show your passion for the job youll be fine.

now I have my new pc i can just mess about with my old one, i've already taken it apart loads of times but this time I won't have to put t back otgther or if something breaks it doesn't matter

i asked someone how they got into it

they said they read books etc then worked on an IT helpline, then found an employer who would pay for his training and course, ive forgotten the acronym, ME thats part of it, microsoft server admin qualification

as soon as I get a lead I will start feeling optimistic about this, I do manual labour right now and I want a change.

I may not be extremely intelligent when it comes to mathematics or physics but you should always utilize your knowledge of what you know the most about right?

hey rakk I'm sorry man but I have no consideration for anyone when they are blatantly in charge of a massive botnet, hiding away like cowards.

I hate cowards and am the angry kind of person who wants to bash some skulls in, that's the truth. Wouldn't you like to find all the people who gave you viruses or scammed your friends and break their necks?

Hey Corftte

http://www.zenos.com/locations

I'm going to do it in Brighton if they do it there, funnily enough I got the train back from Brighton a few hours ago, guess what? The Zenos place is right near the train station and I didn't see it xD

So yeah look on that link and see if there is one near you, they are the leading IT apprenticeship company, it looks too good to be true, no debt? earn a wage? If I can live down there I'll do it.

I will freezing well do it!!!

That's all fine and well, however, if you just report it, we can just delete it without many people having to see such rubbish and it'll keep threads much more in line with what it was supposed to be about - the chances are the spammers would never even bother to read any responses anyways.

i guess if it was a scam google would say

to be safe, every time i see something on the net you google the word followed by the word scam

so i would just google zenos scam, i would even google pcs scam, i've googled EVERYTHING + scam

to be safe. PLUS when you do this it comes up with people defending the company and normally results in you finding confirmation of the company/organization's validity from trusted sources

win win
