looks good. I guess you've not had good experiences with the define 7 case, some people recommend it highly but others say it's got terrible cooling so not sure, that's the one I'm on for now. Only other differences are I got 3600mhz ram, and the mother board comes with wi-fi so I didn't get a separate card.

I haven’t had any particular bad experience with the fractal design case. I’m just wary it’s very expensive so there would be better places to put your money, if it’s a case you like, it fits in your budget, and you’ve heard good things, by all means go for it!

Oh and I also only have a generic 450W power supply just to save money and the configurator recommended it as a minimum.

I’d strongly advise against this. It’ll shorten the life of your system as the PSU will be running near max capacity all the time. Also if you want to upgrade your system down the line, you’ll have to change the PSU too. To upgrade a PSU here costs about £20-30 where as a new PSU costs more like £100

When it comes to the Fractal Define 7, it definitely does have the best airflow of a 'silent' case. However, there are always compromises when it comes to cases designed for quietness. To get the best possible cooling solution for the Fractal, an all-in-one liquid cooler really needs to be used. A standard fan cooler is just going to be blowing warm air around the case whereas an AIO will have a much better time of it.

The Water cooler CPU Cooler is a contained system and one you won’t need to clean. That said. If it leaks, you won’t be able to see the leak. That’s the only reason I wouldn’t suggest one for you personally

they don’t leak often and are very reliable these days, but if you’re unlucky, we wouldn’t want you to potentially lose your whole system

No need to worry there, my friend, an all-in-one liquid cooler is a closed loop, fully sealed and completely maintenance free. I was a bit sceptical when I first heard about them many moons ago but I wouldn't have any other type of cooler now, they're just so much more efficient than fan cooling.

Thanks for the info guys. Updated the power supply to a 550W TXm SERIES™ SEMI-MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, which should be enough since the configurator says the system needs just under 400. Also added two Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 Case Fans to the define 7, which is not the greatest for cooling but I'll keep the water cooling solution in mind if I get issues further down the line. All in all over 1600 spent so definitely not going to spend anymore on it but seems like it'll work great.

I've redone your spec based on your new budget and think I've come up with a good one. Here are the changes I've made:

- Changed the case to a Corsair 4000D airflow as it's a lot cheaper and still has fantastic airflow
- I've changed the Motherboard to from the TUF B550 with Wifi to the TUF B550 without as adding a wifi card can give you wifi and bluetooth for only £1 more. If you don't need wifi on your PC and just use a cable, both the Card can be removed from the spec
- I've changed the power supply again to the RMx 850w as it's always good to have a lot of extra overhead and it'll leave room for upgrades in the future
- I agree with your point about the liquid cooler so have decided to change to the PCS Frost Flow 150 (a gigantic air cooler that should do a good job of cooling the Ryzen 7)
- I've added two extra 120mm Black Case fans to help with airflow
- I've added the 2nd wifi card, an Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200

I can't add the graphics card to the list as it is out of stock (you will still get yours) but adding it back in on the configurator takes the price to £1,710 total. I hope you're happy with the changes and if you have any questions you're welcome to ask

Okay. Decided to stick with the fractal case for now for quietness and sort it's slightly worse cooling with fan overkill, maybe too many fans see what you think, but everything else is set just messing with the case trying to get quiet enough but not terrible air flow. Would rather pay whatever is necessary to get a good quiet case.

The fans ramping up has little to do with it, it’s in the design. The Fractal case has been engineered for quietness, the sides are sound dampened, so if the fans kick in the case contains that sound. Not so with the Corsair you’ve suggested, it’s a pretty open case with lots of venting and a glass side panel which will do little to suppress any noise.

@blindflightsimmer has stated their visual impairment and I can imagine that the importance of a quiet case is high priority. I’d definitely stick with the Define 7.

Also... the TUF X570 is a better partner for the 5800X. The B550 will be alright if you’re not pushing the CPU too much. But flight simulators often are processor heavy so if you’ve got the budget, it’s a worthwhile change of motherboard.

Yeah the main reason for me pushing quietness is I'll have a screen-reader going, if on flight sim possibly ATC programs too, it all adds up so even if it's a small difference I'd rather spend the extra, have a quieter case and offset that the best I can with the best possible air cooling. Not to mention I sometimes leave the pc on overnight doing long flights and land them in the mornings Thanks, switched to the x570 as well

As you’ve changed your motherboard, you may have just lost WiFi, the X570 doesn’t have that on board. So don’t forget to pop in the AX200 card if you need wireless capability.

As you’ve changed your motherboard, you may have just lost WiFi, the X570 doesn’t have that on board. So don’t forget to pop in the AX200 card if you need wireless capability.

I’d highly recommend the H115i RGB Pro XT as a liquid option for you, I’m using a little brother version (H100i RGB Platinum, as I have a smaller case) in my system and it’s been running constantly since it was delivered in August. As you say, in the Fractal case there’s not that many places for air to go, an AIO really helps solve that problem.

I’d highly recommend the H115i RGB Pro XT as a liquid option for you, I’m using a little brother version (H100i RGB Platinum, as I have a smaller case) in my system and it’s been running constantly since it was delivered in August.
