I'll be blunt, you aren't going to get anything worth talking about gaming wise at that type of price, you realy need about 5 times that amount, so I'd save some more money

Five times that amount? 2000 pounds for Minecraft and Rocket League?

you might get away with about £1500 - £1600, prices are sky high at the minute due to low stock & high demand

If you or anyone you know can create a Windows installation copy on a CD (if your build has an optical drive) or on a USB stick, you'll be able to save around ~£100 by not including an operating system.

This Microsoft link explains how to create and use installation media you've created.

Yep! You're talking about Windows 10 licence transfer from old machine to new machine ;) I've dropped a link below explaining it. But OP said it's the first PC, so we can assume OP doesn't have a Win10 licence, that's why I have included Win in the specs.

At this price point, I'd look at getting a Console, they'll be much better suited to your budget and give you better performance. If you're coming from a console I'd continue to save until about £1200 (in todays market) and you'll be able to get a proper PC that's worth the money. As much as this build might be able to run games if you were to put something like a 1030 in it, it won't be an enjoyable experience and has no future upgradability what so ever.

The PC market is really up the shoot right now, what used to be a good entry level graphics card now costs double if you're able get your hands on one for retail. Hopefully in the time it takes you to save things will hopefully normalise and we'll be able to get you a nice rig for a better price. I know it sucks to hear this but keep in there and the wait will be worth while.

I think this is a bit of an overestimation of how demanding the games in the OP (and older games in general) are. I've squeezed out 50 FPS in Hell Let Loose and 80+ in Killing Floor 2 on a GTX 680 rig with 4GB of DDR3 RAM and an Intel i5 3550 quad-core. That same setup played Minecraft at 200+ FPS—I'm quite sure it could have easily run Rocket League and Rogue Company as well.

I'd say if you're recommending a setup with no path for upgrades anyways, drop the SSD to a 256GB. That in itself is more than enough to fit in an entire operating system and all the mentioned games (I used to run an SSD of that size with the OS and World of Warcraft on it). Maybe drop the RAM down to 8GB as well, as that's one of the parts that can be upgraded here. I think I'd even go as far as to suggest switching the GPU to a 1050 Ti to save money on what's essentially a bare minimum build.

We don't do that here. We only recommend PC for future, not for past. If PC use cases are limited, best is to buy a prebuilt or used PC, or a console.

New custom PC is for existing and upcoming games and software, keeping in mind they're more CPU or GPU demanding. Many of us recommend only what we think is worth to pay the money for and we would feel comfortable buying for ourselves.

If OP wants to buy a throw away PC, it's their choice, their money. If you want to recommend the OP to get the cheapest components at minimum, it's up to you. But make sure to describe what you're recommending so OP wouldn't have too high expectations thinking these specs could do much, while actually it would be closer to an office PC from the past 5 years ago.

256gb is only 180gb as you can't use more than 70% without a speed drop. Win10 is around 20gb plus each bigger update is around 6-7gb. Just a few programmes, some files, few games and a storage gets full which slows down the whole system. HDD is very slow and in new builds normally used just for files' archive, not software or games.

Edit: fair point, RAM could be dropped to 8GB 3000MHz. Not sure if worth, though, as that would save only around 60 pounds.

No worries, we're all learning from each other here and there's no right or wrong, just better or worse.

I've amended my above thoughts and added regarding your suggested RAM change. I think it's a valid point for an entry system, where need to be budget conscious. Dropping RAM to 8GB (I'm not a fan of it as I think nowadays machines should have 16GB) would reduce the total price of the whole system.

I would also worry that Windows sitting idle will use most of an 8GB RAM install. 🤔

I'm probably speaking out of place here as a newbie. I just don' think customs builds are useful sub-£1000. You are paying for flexibility/upgrade potential and you haven't got the budget to do that. You need to monetize the discount from standard configs.

So raise the budget to £800-1000 and some PCS gaming PCs at Currys become available.

If the budget is £400 or so then I think the best you can do is go for a factory second from a well known manufacturer/legitimate reseller. It might have a scratch on the case but as long as the internals are fine. So something like an i5-10400, 16gb 2666Mhz Ram, 256gb NVMe SDD, Win10 installed, Mini tower and 1y RTB warranty is £420 from a legitimate reseller. Fit a new 1TB HDD and that's £460. Problem is no GPU. Now one of my children plays Minecraft ok on an 8GB i7-6700 with no external GPU, and the i5-10400 has far better single and multi-core performance. I can't speak for Rocket league and Rogue Company.

Surely though the right solution here is just a console? Buy a second hand or refurb Xbox for <£200 and use the balance to help save up for a PC in 2022+?

I am also of the opinion that going for a console is the way to go here if you're only looking for gaming performance. A new Xbox Series S will be cheaper than the system you've specced above and will outperform it substantially. It also has keyboard and mouse support if that was something that you were interested in.

With PC component prices at a high, I would highly recommend going down the console route for anyone with under £1000 budget.

I agree with the buying of a console if you have less then £1000 for a gaming pc but I would go for the XBox X rather then the s as the X series dose 12 teraflops, has blue ray drive (so you can buy up those old xbox games and play them up scaled), a 1 tb harddrive and dose 4k gaming all for an extra £80-£100. Were as the S series dose 4 teraflops, No blue ray drive, but has 500gb harddrive, and dose 1440p gaming

On a slightly larger budget I would agree with looking at the X, it is an all round better product. I went with the S in this instance as OP mentioned a £400 budget. If choosing to go down the console route I would recommend spending a little extra and going for the X over the S.
